“Coeliac & Gluten Free haven”

I have stayed here 3 times over the past 2 years. The relaxed atmosphere and creative Gluten Free food offerings entice me back each time. How can you resist Gluten Free fish and chips? I suggested adding cider to the batter on the second occasion, which worked a treat!
The locals are friendly, the hotel staff are helpful and the jazz on a Wednesday evening is such a change from the norm. I will be back when the sauna is completed

Having spent my childhood in the area, always loved Montgomery, and would often pop in for a drink or a snack, never had a bad experience.

Now, having moved away, I went and visited my sister, who still lives nearby, and we decided to pop over to have dinner in the bar, which was really good. barman helpful and friendly, made sure we were okay, and food was good, which it was!

I love Montgomery, and the Dragon is a good asset :)

would recommend

Booked a Sunday lunch here for Fathers Day and it couldn't have been better,. Hadn't been here for about 20 years. but remembered the Dragon Hotel as a lovely old historic building. It has been beautifully and sensitively refurbished by the new owners and it is a great place to eat.. Right from the moment we entered the building we were made to feel very welcome. The service was speedy and efficient there no long waits between courses and the staff were so helpful they made us feel like royalty. All the others diners looked equally happy. All the tables were full and there was a great atmosphere. The food itself was superb. My starter of broccoli and stilton soup was spot on with very good flavour balance too many places swamp the vegetable with too much cheese this was not the case at the Dragon. My husband's prawn starter was also declared delicious by him For the main course I had roast chicken and my husband had beef in both cases the meat was moist and succulent. All the accompanying vegetables were cooked to perfection with yummy roast potatoes. We didn't have to ask for extra gravy it was offered right at the start of the course and the offer taken up by us later on too I always like a lot of gravy and I unashamedly indulged. We finished with lemon syllabub in my case and bread and butter pudding in my husbands case. We were by then well satisfied but were determined to complete our meal. We left feeling happily full of excellent food and looking forward to our next visit.

You need go to Montgomery a pretty village if you need visit memorable Bunners - the shop that has the nail in the haystack. It has an affordable antique shop that sells SMALL BUT BEAUTIFUL THINGS. Amidst all this is the Dragon Hotel which is mediocre at everything and provides a breakfast hastily prepared. Not to standards maintained in Wales. But probably the best place in a must visit village

Had a mid week break at the Dragon Hotel.
Super time, nice room, caring staff, ample leasurly breakfast, splendid evening meal.
No complaints at all.
Live music on a Wednesday night was an unexpected treat.
The swiming pool is a hidden jem.

The Dragon Hotel changed hands last year, being taken over by a syndicate of locals to stop it falling into the hands of a conglomerate. It works well and the staff are happy and very helpful.

We stayed there for three nights as part of a group of twelve or so old Morgan car owners. My wife and I had asked for a quiet room on the first floor and Room 4 fitted the bill, despite being above the reception area. The room was “cosy”, i.e. small but it was clean and had everything we needed including a comfortable bed and lovely big bath towels. WiFi wasn’t good in the room but OK in the bar area. Some rooms on the second floor have restricted headroom so be careful if you’re tall. Room 16 looked lovely, new carpets fitted while we were there. It’s a premium room though so a bit pricey.

The bar has a good range of beers including the local “Monty’s” range. We had dinner in the restaurant on two nights. Pleasant food and a reasonable choice, at the top end of the price range for the area. Desserts were tasty but disappointingly small and certainly not value for money. Cooked breakfasts were good but short on fresh fruit; prunes were the only option I saw. On day three of our stay there were no cereals either. One of our group pronounced the vegetarian sausage to be very tasty and nice.

The swimming pool is housed in a rather uninviting timber building in the car park but don’t be put off. It’s a modern pool and worth a visit.

Montgomery is a great centre for touring and walking. Plenty of local shops and cafés. A visit to Bunners hardware shop is a “must”. If you’re staying in Montgomery, I’d recommend The Dragon.

I'd rate the hotel as "Good" but Tripadvisor doesn't have such a category.

Room Tip: If you're tall, ask for a room on the first floor. Many second floor rooms have restricted headr...

We only stopped off for lunch but can say that we had an excellent lunch and the staff were really friendly. Montgomery is a delightful little town and well worth breaking a longer journey here for lunch and a look around.
