“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2013

The Blacks Head has just reopened under new management, and had a tasteful facelift. My wife and I have been in a number of times, since its re-opening.

They keep a very good pint of beer from Ramsbury, with two regular ales and a guest.

We have eaten there 3 times now. We have been twice for Sunday lunch, which was good value, at £10 for a main and a sweet. We also ate there a couple of Saturdays ago, where we had the Steak Night Special of Two Steak main meals and a bottle of wine for £20. The steaks were well cooked, with a nice selections of sides.

Well done to all the Blacks Head, keep un the good work!

I like this pub - have for the last two years. Its just reopened under new management and has undergone a facelift - but not too much as to ruin its charm. The kitchen is not yet open but the bar staff is very friendly and attentive. I talked with one of the new owners who was very nice and very enthusiastic about getting up and running to full service. I will be back ... most certainly. We plan to try to Inn around Christmas. If you are in the area, this should be on your list of English Pubs to visit. Bletchingdon is a beautiful village nestled just along the edge of the Cotswolds and a great place to park, have a walk (be sure to walk down the lane to the church) then have a meal or afternoon drink at Black Head ... don't miss this great experience!!!

booked the barn for 4 nights but cut the stay short after the 2nd night. Shower was little more than a dribble, mattresses were thin with springs poking through. The room smelt of damp, and even the front door was rotten. Never again.

May be good for a bite to eat or a drink in the pub, but would not recommend to stay over night.

Room Tip: keep driving.

I travelled down from Birmingham with my son on the 14th July(2012)to meet up with some friends of ours from Oxford. The Black`s Head Inn was our chosen venue for the meet up, We had breakfast there and was most pleased, not only with the food, but also with the great service be were given.

Will use this Venue again next time we meet up with our friends. Thanks to all who work here for the friendly attention we were afforded, good food and good prices.

Tom Richardson.

The Blacks Head Inn was extremely welcoming on Thursday afternoon when we needed a snack.
We saw the sign for cream teas and what we were served was better than alot of country hotel offer. For £14.50 a pot of tea each, a hot water refill ( and more offered if required), sandwiches which were freashly made and very tasty- chunky chicken in mayo, and lovely warm scones with heaps of jam and cream. If we had been able to go back for an evening meal, the menu was extensive and varied and appeared excellent value. A jovial host complimented the offering. We shall return.

Our room was double booked ( v annoying) so they gave us a good discount off a non en-suite in a different part of the building. It was pretty shabby but the evening meal was adequate; fortunately it wasn't overpriced and the staff were friendly enough.

Breakfast was hearty, but all in all, we'd go back for a drink and a sandwich, but we wouldn't stay overnight or have a hot meal again. Four of us ate beef stew (average, measly portion) roast beef (overdone carvery style with thick gravy, but that's par for the course with English pubs) Tuna steak (overdone, dry, flavourless), beef stew average flavour, sparse portion)

On balance, not bad enough to really complain, not good enough to go back. One room definitely needs redecorating, but I'm told by another patron that the self-contained 'barn conversion apartment' out in the back yard is a good deal for £80 inc Breakfast for two, it's apparently quite posh and nicely furnished.

A reasonable bunch of people though, if not a bit disorganised with their booking system.

Room Tip: Ask for the barn apartment

The Blacks Head Inn has excellent food, as well as a friendly atmosphere. We have eaten there several times, and never had a bad meal. The prices are reasonable, especially compared to some of the other pubs we visited in the area.

If you want to stop by for a pint or a glass of wine the atmosphere is inviting the proprietess, Jayne, is very friendly. She genuinely enjoys meeting and talking with her patrons.
