My fiance and I came to stay in January for a cosy winter break. We had such a wonderful time! The cottage is located in a beautiful Sussex village, and we enjoyed long walks in the surrounding countryside. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated, very tasteful and easy to relax in. Everything you need is all there in the cottage, unlike so many self-catering places! On one evening we ordered food from our host Shona - this was such a good decision! A delicious three course meal followed and we didn't have to leave the cottage - or do any clearing up! Really recommend for a little break away from it all.
We were delighted with Bay Tree Cottage and impossible to find fault from its' sunny and tastefully furnished interior; to its' sun trap terrace overlooking the owner's garden; to glimpses of fantastic countryside as you stand in the vaulted lounge. On-site parking a real plus and ability to safely store our cycles added to a five star experience. The cottage is located within easy walking distance of a bustling village with restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Recommend the park n ride for Brighton and a short drive to Arundel for wonderful river walks/cycling and lunch by the river. Shona was a sensitive host who left us to our own devices but was easily contactable if required. Will definitely book again and encourage others to do the same. Thanks, wish we could have stayed longer. Gill and Fiona.
Visiting a friend who lives in the downs, we needed accommodation and this was perfect. A refreshing change from the usual fussy decor, The Bay Tree Cottage has a simple, tasteful interior and a lovely wee sun-trap garden. We had everything we needed and could easily do our own meals but you must try some of Shona's terrific cooking.
We stayed for a week here in February and enjoyed accommodation of a very high standard indeed. The property is detached and a reasonable distance from the owner's home: it was delightfully private. The cottage is very well furnished and comfortable - all of our needs were met. It provided an excellent base for our tour of East and West Sussex. Shona, the owner, was informative and helpful about restaurants and places to visit, and offered to cook for us on some evenings if required -in another life she was the Food editor for The Times!
After much travelling round the USA and England we had a quiet and relaxing couple of nights at the Bay Tree Cottage. Easy access to the South Downs National Park and many rejuvenating walks, with some good pubs in the neighborhood! The Host (and owner) Shona is the most marvelous cook and we were treated to one of her culinary masterpieces for dinner one night.
For two people looking for that "get-away" this is the place. We shall be returning!
