Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: One of the top twenty in Simon Jenkins's book 'England's Thousand Best Houses'. Idyllically set in the heart of an ancient deer park, below the South Downs, the Elizabethan house contains an important collection of needlework, paintings and furniture. The spectacular Long Gallery is the third longest in England. The gardens include a four-acre Walled Garden with stunning herbaceous borders, plus Pleasure Grounds. Parham has always been a well-loved family home, and only three families have lived here since its foundation stone was laid in 1577. Its tranquillity and timeless beauty have changed little over the years. Now owned by a charitable trust, the house is lived in by Lady Emma Barnard, her husband James and their family. Open from Easter Sunday until the end of October. Please see the website for days and times.

Parham delights from the very first glance. A beautiful exterior contains room after distinctive room, each with much to admire and inform. The layout is exceptionally well thought out and our visit, which what we had planned as a brief stopover, occupied the whole afternoon very happily indeed. The whole experience reflects enormous credit on all who have created it. I hope to go back.

Great House with approachable and knowledgeable staff. The Long Gallery is worth the visit alone. Stunning views from the house. Lovely gardens to wander through. Picnic area as well as shop. Recommended for all.

This house exerted a magic spell on me - I spent 3 hours inside and could only tear myself away when it closed, so only had time to skim through the gardens. It is full of amazing paintings, beautiful carpets and furniture covered with wonderful embroideries. The whole exerts an atmosphere of warmth and faded beauty, helped by the magnificent fresh flower arrangements with colours inspired by the room they are in. The staff were delightful and I shall return again to spend time in the gardens - about which other people have written.

My wife and I visited the delightful Parham House and Gardens today.
Nestled in the picturess West Sussex Downland setting.
This elegant Tudor House is wonderfully looked after and full of intriguing paintings and artifacts.
There is a very nice Tea Room / Reastaurant that serves lovely food at a reasonable price.
The floral displays in the House enhance the furniture and pictures and bring the place to life.
The staff were friendly and very informative about the House and history of previous owners.
All in All well worth a visit. We will definately visit again to view the gardens at a different time of the year.

Thank Mark E
