We came across the house as we needed somewhere to stop overnight. And how pleased we were to find it the owners were lovely very friendly you were introduced by first names ,asked for our names and never forgot you. the family room was lovely and all the little extras ie dressing gowns shoe polish vanity kits and even a sewing kit just made it all the more quirky loved the stay and a lovely breakfast in the morning with loads to choose from both continental and cooked on offer and you could have both a Defo must to stay at if in the area

We had some work to do in Bristol and due to a recent family bereavement I wanted somewhere quiet to stay for the weekend. It took 7 (should have been 4) hours on a jammed motorway to get to Woolverton in the baking heat and my stupid Fiat 500 has no aircon, so we arrived bedraggled and fed up. Not to worry we were made very welcome by Rowena and were soon in the bar with a nice cool drink. The hotel is wonderful, full of character and color not just bland browns and creams. Our room had lovely views over the fields and the bathroom had recently been renovated and was perfect. The breakfast was amazing, fresh fruit and any hot breakfast you like, cooked perfectly by Mike. The conservatory is so welcoming and relaxing and safe to say we had quite a few bottles of wine between us. Rowena and Mike make you feel so at home I could not have wished for a better place to stay and the couple who were travelling with us agree 100%. We did not want to leave. Definitely recommended.

you never know when booking online or reading review... So for us, it was a very nice surprise, the owners are so friendly, the rooms are made for a perfect sleep... home sweet home, feeling like I was visiting old friends. We had the chance to meet the other travellers and it was another great surprise, thanks a lot for all your efforts and work!
For sure, we will come back when driving in the area.

My wife and I just needed a break to have some time for ourselves for a change, and just needed to get away.

We intended to stay just two nights, and as we were so relaxed, and with the addition of Rowena and Mike making us so welcome, we decided to stay an additional night.

We certainly will stay here again. It is an ideal location to stay to see Bath, the American Museum, Longleat, Westbury and Trowbridge.

As we had to leave early Monday morning to go back to work, Mike put himself out to ensure the continental breakfast was prepared in time for us.

Thoroughly recommended, so just switch off from the hustle and bustle of life and take time to relax here

The location was ideal for the area we needed to see. Hospitality was second to none , ,we could not fault the ambience, genuine people, we felt we had known them for years, Beautiful room in the coach house, décor unusual, different and quirky, definitely a must, 10/10 will for sure go back.

I had a business commitment in Bristol that necessitated an overnight stay. I thought to take Mrs B with me and extend it until the Saturday morning, with a Sunday morning appointment back at home to return to. Wanting countryside rather than city, and towards the SW rather than the Cotswolds, I booked this place. I doubt I will every make a better decision!!
Firstly, if you want a formal hotel or B and B where you are called Sir or Madam, look elsewhere! For Rowena (a force of nature) and Mike (Mr Unflappable), it is first name terms from the moment you walk in through the door. We stayed in the attached coach house as Mrs B uses walking sticks and all accommodation in the main building is upstairs. The room was huge and decorated in a style you would not expect at an old rectory, reflecting the owners' previous lives working and living abroad. The bathroom had all the necessary soaps, shampoos etc and of good quality, with freeview TV in the bedroom itself. The room also had a mini bar with free water and also beers and spirits available for purchase but, trust me, if you are at the place you will be spending your time either in the huge gardens, containing plenty of seats and recliners, or the public areas on the ground floor of the main building. Those rooms include a huge lounge with a tv, plenty of seating and wonderful decorations, a room where, each morning, breakfast is laid out but, for the rest of the day is dominated by a full size snooker table, and the conservatory/bar where, in the evening, local beers are available, together with a number of Scotches from around the world, other spirits and Englsih wines (which Mrs B loved). If at all possible Rowena sources away from big companies in favour of family run concerns.
Breakfast is a buffet affair with cooked options...but what a buffet!! Fruit juices, cereals, breads, cooked meats and fish, waffles and the like together with more fresh fruit than you can shake a stck at! Coffee and about eight different types of tea are available but if, despite all on offer, you want one of the cooked options Mike is on hand to provide those, again locally sourced.
On my day in Bristol Mrs B spent her time sitting and enjoying the large garden (containing a boules rink) enjoying the sunshine. She said it was the best time she had ever had doing absolutely nothing!
The House is an ideal base for Bristol, Bath, Bradford on Avon and the Somerset countryside, together with, if you feel like a longer trek, Exmoor and the coast.
No evening meals are served but your hosts are more than willing to provide recommendations. There is a pub across the road, with limited but ok 'pub' food, but nearby there is the Tollgate Inn at Holt and The Angel at Upton Scudamore, where we ate well.
In the end we decided to stay on until Sunday, we were having such a wonderful stay, with an early dart home. Sadly a discovered puncture meant that I was still sitting in the Kwikfit carpark at 9.30am...when Mrs B called me to say that, at The House, breakfast on Sunday is Buck's Fizz Breakfast day!
I always try and think of something negative I could say because I don't believe anywhere can be perfect, but I am struggling here. About the only thing I can come up with is that the bedside lamps are difficult to read by but, if that is going to put you off staying here, grab a little torch and come anyway. You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: If you have difficulty with stairs ask for ground floor rooms in the Coach House

My boyfriend and I stayed here to visit Bath for the first time. It was easy to get the bus into Bath center and the hosts were great. Breakfast is amazing, especially outside when the weather is nice.

Rooms were very clean and had needed amenities. My only snag was the fact that it was quite dark and dingy inside.
