“Great Food and Friendly Service”
Reviewed 20 April 2013

I've enjoyed many meals at The Duke in the last few years or so and tonight was one of the best! We were celebrating a cousins birthday so had a big group of 10 and the service was fantastic. It was unusually quiet for a Saturday night but the atmosphere was still great. The food was excellent and everyone had a great time. I would definitely recommend this pub for food and its also great for a drink in the beer garden when the sun shines. We will be back!

“Just enjoy!”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

This is not a pretentious place, it's a bit if a local and a bit of a gastro pub. The food is good and tasty and they do real ale as well as fine wines and house wine. Fridays and Saturdays it's worth booking, it tends to get a bit busy. Beware , there is limited parking in the car park over the road, and if you happen to arrive after a load of 4x4s you won't get in.

The menu varies from time to time, but we've never been stuck for a nice combination.

“Very good Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 17 February 2013

As the title says we visited this lovely pub for a family Sunday lunch.

It's a very traditional country pub, lovely open fire, good selection of wines and beers.

We had a beautiful roast dinner with tonnes of veg. All very well cooked and presented. There was quite a delay for dessert which was also nice.

“Super food...”
Reviewed 31 January 2013

Popped in for a meal midweek. The food was very tasty, but no soup available on the starters which was a bit of a disappointment; apart from that, a rounded menu.
Service was only ok...there was one girl on but skittles teams had arrived unexpectedly (not in the diary apparently) which meant that she was rushed off her feet and service could definitely have been much better.
Nice selection of wine and apart from the skittles teams which were loud, a pleasant, if a little chilly, surroundings... it would have been good it they'd lit the fire.
Overall a tad underwhelming.

“Eat, drink and be merry”
Reviewed 15 January 2013

The Duke was recommended to us by the owners of the cottage we were staying in and that recommendation is well worth passing on. Very comfortably furnished, if all you want is a nice place for a drink then you will not be disappointed. There is a really good selection of real ale along with wines, spirits and soft drinks. Amongst our party we tried two of the ales and they were top class. We also decided to eat and the food choice was excellent, as was the quality and service. According to the menu, most days it is also possible to order takeaway pizza.
Apparently this is a very nice destination during the summer when you can enjoy the outdoors (really, when did we last have a summer?) but as we were there in January in the evening it was too dark to see outside. What there is on the inside though is a great skittle alley. If you are a fan or just want to try and old English pub game then this is for you. It looks as though the tables for those eating might sometimes be extended into the skittle area so if you are going to visit specifically for the game it might be best to check first that it is available. The welcome we received was friendly and genuine and I would certainly return at the first opportunity. If you pay a visit then have a great time as we definitely did.
