I was not really knowing what to expect after having read some recent reviews.
I must say staff were very polite and helpful, the food was absoloutly wonderful, it was a quiet night infact I think we were the only ones eating , however this had no reflection on the food.
A very well done to manager and staff for making a special night very special.

Thank polkey

We were delighted about three years ago to finally have a friendly local pub where Toby & Tom made us very welcome with our dogs & we enjoyed many good meals with work colleagues, family & friends. All our positive food experiences & very friendly welcomes disappeared this summer with the arrival of 'Dave the manager'. His attitude was rude & unwelcoming and a second visit found us subjected to a change in the previously friendly staffs attitude (clearly management attitude was rubbing off). We avoided the pub for 6 months as a result & only popped in my chance for a drink the other day & to our pleasure discovered Toby back behind the bar having made major changes to the staffing. We have since enjoyed a lovely lunch & previous warm welcome w and our dogs had become accustomed to & now look forward to many repeat visits! The food has largely always been enjoyable although Sunday lunches could be improved in terms of variety of meat available & better cooked veg & roasties also tastier cheese sauce please! (Stronger cheddar/increased flavour generally) Sticky toffee pud & ice cream is delicious! So glad Toby has got back on top of our local!

My partner and I decided we wanted to try somewhere new so we decided to try out this pub as it was dog friendly and we wanted to take our dog out for the evening. On arrival we were greeted politely and shown to our table. The pub atmosphere was warming and decor was pleasant. Our waitress was very nice and helpful throughout the evening. We were expecting pub food but was I still a little disappointed at menu, the starter was ok, we had bread and oil as well as Cajun chicken skewers. For main course they had ran out of rump steak so my partner and I both opted for the burger and chips, which was average, would of liked a side salad just to make it look a bit more exciting!
It was good to get out for the night but the food was very average. We would go to this pub again but probably not to eat.

This pub has seriously gone down hill. We have used the duke often over theast fiew years as its only a short walk away from home. The good quality has hit rock bottom and over all so has the pub. Staff seam to think they are gods gift but seriously after 25 years in the pub trade I would not employ these people. This pub is trying to be something it's not and its not working. Try and get the basics of a pub right and then you might be getting some where. Over all seriously disappointed with this place now. And people wonder why so many pubs are closing down? Just come and look at the duke it's a prime example.
