“Very pleasant stay in the friendly hotel”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

We stayed at the White Hart for a wedding nearby and were pleasantly surprised by this little hotel. First of all I should mention that it was very reasonably priced and so we weren't expected first class luxury. The Hotel has a car park, but it does have a slightly difficult entrance, which might cause problems for an elderly couple in a large car. The bedroom was smallish with an equally small shower room off it, but there was hanging for clothes and a trouser press and iron. There was also facility for making tea in the morning and a dressing table area. The beds were comfortable and had good quality sheets and duvet covers from The White Company which were fairly new. Our room was on the first floor but I would recommend staying on the 2nd floor, as it was a little noisy with other wedding guests coming back much later than on than us - the walls are quite thin. But we had a good nights sleep once things had quietened down. Breakfast the following morning was top stuff and arrived fairly promptly from a dynamite waiter. The staff were altogether unusually friendly and drinkers at the bar the previous evening were also nice chaps still in the farming gear. The small town is lovely and it has an excellent gun shop with country gear which pleased my partner no end.

Room Tip: Book a room on the top floor at the back of the Hotel to avoid noise from the high street and other...

We stayed over night and entertained guest in the restaurant. Accommodation is clean tidy and typical of a Somerset village pub/Hotel.

Restaurant is inviting as is the menu and the service.

Food was server hot, appetising in a timely manner from a comprehensive menu at very reasonable prices.

For the traveller into deepest Somerset this Hotel in a quaint village with atmosphere is a must.

Room Tip: If stairs present a problem ensure this is mentioned when booking

Many hotels is small towns are, frankly, squalid, or naff, or dirty or have staff who really don't care.
Here they do. Simple, but great fare, good clean rooms, staff who are actually human and a great 'can-do' attitude.
It's not the Ritz, but maybe has a little more soul than this? Certainly a hotel we'll revisit.

We stayed at the White heart 28th June, our room was clean and comfortable and quiet throughout the night. We also ate here my husband had fish and chips and I had the belly pork with mustard mash both were extremely good,I tasted the fish and have to say it was the best fish I have tasted in a while , the breakfast was very good as well. They do have a car park at the back which gets busy but a bonus. Good location and the staff are very friendly. we would stay here again as its very good value.

We stayed here to allow us to attend a friend's (surprise?) birthday celebrations in a nearby town. We arrived much too early, but the staff were unfazed and welcoming. We didn't return until about 11 in the evening, but they were organised. Beer was welcome too. The rooms are perfectly adequate. Finding them was a bit of a challenge: the place is a bit of a warren, and their signage could be improved a shade. But I didn't get lost & end up in anyone else's room. Result! Parking late at night in the car park wasn't going to happen, but there was plenty on-street parking, and where we parked was probably closer than using the car park. Standard, agreeable, plentiful english breakfast. Staff making an effort. All in all, a repeatable event.

Stayed here for a Friday night in June. A warm welcome. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Nice en suite with plenty of hot water. It was also quiet, although I don't know how noisy it would be if the hotel was full or the pub part was busy. The breakfast was very good- freshly cooked. We would stay here again.

Stayed at the White Hart for a Sunday night over the May Bank Holiday weekend and thought it was an excellent hotel, very clean, superb fascilities, nice breakfast ,friendly and responsive staff. It is a very quaint and genteel town, a superb location for exploring Exmoor, Somerset and not far from the Coast. I would definately go again and reccommend it to anyone else.
