Stayed here for the tour of Wessex weekend and found the hotel to be spacious and well kept. Could not fault the man who runs the hotel, he went out of his way to make us feel welcome and even let us stay on in our room for free on check out day so that my boyfriend, who was doing the tour of Wessex, could shower and change when he finished

The White Hart has a friendly family atmosphere and is full of happy people, staff and customers alike. The rooms are cosy and ours was quiet even though it was over the bar. It has a popular restaurant and the food is good country fayre in the French style. Breakfast is a great traditional English or croissants if you prefer. We had a lovely stay, and do take a trip up Ham Hill if you visit, amazing views and good walking. We will go back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are pretty good and noise is minimal

I have visited this pub three times, first visit in week food good no problems. Booked a Saturday night a week in advance turned up to pub ordered food waited an hour, kept on being told food would be coming. Eventually the table next to us, who had arrived after us were served. We decided to walk out, the publican offered us one free round of drinks but this was not enough to stop ruining our evening. She did not seem very concerned or bothered. I have spoken to locals who say over booking often happens at this pub. Pity because food is good if you can get it!

Having read the reviews of others who have stayed here I can sympathise. The decor is a little tired and 70's. But nonetheless it delivers all you need.
Food: the menu excellent and their £5 lunch (we had excellent sausage & lentils) was above average.
Drink: they are in the Good Beer Guide deservedly. Well kept. Good selection. Nice wine too. Pity they shut in the afternoon ~ there seems to be sufficient demand.
Accommodation: yeah I know it isn't up to date but the rooms were clean, warm, spacious and quiet.
The room rate (£60 for a twin) is cheap but I'd prefer not to pay extra for English breakfast.(£4 each).
The owner is welcoming, the staff fine.
All in all the hotel is perfectly acceptable. It served us well.

A very homely, comfortable hotel. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable beds. (Our room was minus a mirror though - only a small one in the bathroom!) You may need to pre book if you want to dine in. There was a private function when we were there, so we had to eat out. Shame, because I know from previous experience that the food is excellent here. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the Somerset countryside.

... customer service was poor. Suffered a confrontational attitude from one member of staff over breakfast. He insisted the inclusive English breakfast was not. Turns out he was wrong but only after making a minor scene out of it in front of the other guests.

I was a little worried about some comments on another review but I needn't have been. Family run by the wonderful Peter and Isabelle, the White Hart is a charming hotel that offers exemplary service, extremely hugh standards of housekeeping and fabulous food in their resteraunt.

Our room was a good size (then again it was the family room) with a TV, kettle, hairdryer etc and the, very very clean, bathroom came with an electric overbath shower. The room was cleaned daily (we stayed for nights) and towels were also changed daily.

Breakfast was simple and delicious (we had the full English, but continental isavailable also, along with a range of cereals) and served quickly. Breakfast times are a little early for our personal taste (7:30am - 8:45am) but very well organised. The evening meal in the resteraunt (additional cost) was excellent and fairly reasonably priced, our party of 4 had steak, mixed grill and Lamb and all were delicious, again, with excellent and prompt service.

Yes they close in the afternoon (between 2:30 and 5:30pm) and the bar closes, promptly, at 11:30pm but you have to remember that this is a family run hotel, they have to have some time off.

If you want somewhere that is open 24 hours with a late bar, then go to the Hilday Inn, if you want a charming, family run hotel with excellent service and standards, then stay at the White Hart in Martock.
