“Fantastic - highly recommended”
Reviewed 27 July 2011

Having searched around for a good quality overnight stop with decent restaurant in or around Bath, I came across this little beauty! Recently awarded 5 stars for their 3 bedrooms (soon to be 5), and a highly recommended restaurant. Booked a table, despite not thinking we'd really need one for a Sunday night, but we did - the restaurant was very busy (service was impeccable though). The staff were all very attentive, but discreetly so, and nothing was ever too much trouble - even phoning the fish supplier to find an answer for me! The room and en-suite were beautiful, everything was incredibly clean. I understand the rooms were refurbished around 7 months ago, and they still have a brand new feel to them. I asked for room 2 specifically, as from their website, it looked to be the biggest - and it was - the bathroom was huge! The food at dinner was amazing - my partner had duck and I had one of the veggie options, which were more imaginative than most places and far more tasty too. Unusually, due to the menu and quality of the food, we went for 3 courses - the home made ice cream is to die for! Breakfast was good, including free range eggs from their own chickens, and the smoked salon served with scrambled eggs was very good quality. The only minor negative was that there was some road noise in the room with an open window, but given the Northey Arms is on the main London/Bath A4, as clearly seen from their website photos and directions, that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone booking. I was aware beforehand, and it didn't really bother me. All in all, highly recommended, we'll definitely be going back again, and are also looking forward to trying their sister hotel, The Old House at Home, which is also fairly nearby.

We stayed 11/2/11 for just one night. Room 2 is superb. The decor is first class and as the other review said the bathroom is to die for. Simply the best bathroom we have ever had as an ensuite. The only let down (minor) is that the room is on the main road and there is no double glazing.Tis is why we gave 4 stars and not 5. The road noise does die down the later it gets and we slept very well. We ate n the restaurant and we could not fault the food or the service. Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive. Matt and Jamie were the perfect hosts. I would love to go back on 1st April for the Marvn Gaye tribute nght but as there are no rooms available I will have to give it a miiss. Just to far to travel home after a few beers and a good meal. All in all a good evening. Thanks.
