“A night at the Ashbourne”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

I stayed at the Ashbourne on 19th April. The occasion, a 70th birthday party. I booked a standard room and was pleasently surprised at the size and lovely decoration. The layout of the place is a central hub of dining room bistro reception and large function room surrounded by blocks of acommodation tastefully laid out. a large car park at the side
The evening function was excellent with great food and very attentive staff. Breakfast was as huge or healthy as you wanted all served with a smile. Lovely venue for that special occasion.

Room Tip: Don't be put off by its location. Ideal for business travellers in the week, close to Humber ban...

Stayed here one night on business. The rooms are great and the bed huge, and the staff are helpful and friendly. The free Wifi works well. However, there are lots of little things that are not so good - the TV in the room is tiny, the same size as my laptop screen. The shower is OK, but in a narrow bath meaning the shower curtain clings to you - the room doors do not lock automatically when you close them, the pillows are too thick.
The decor is old fashioned in the public areas. Food is mixed - I had the fish and chips, the fish was great, the chips were not and it came with a salad, which seemed out of place.
Overall not bad but not as good as it thinks it is!

Thank you for posting a review of your recent stay at the Ashbourne Hotel, clearly you found a few bits which we can improve on, which is what we constantly aim to do. As you mentioned there are a few rooms that still need to be locked manually on entering or leaving the room, however to be fair they are perfectly serviceable and meet all requirements. These rooms as you noted also have smaller TVs, however the greater percentage of our rooms do have self locking doors and 32" Flat screen TVs, I am sure should you need a room in the area in the future we have a room to suit your needs, it is pleasing that you enjoyed your fish and found the staff friendly and helpful,

once again many thanks for your review

very best regards

I stayed at the Ashbourne Hotel, North Killingholme for two nights March 2014 and the staff made feel very special...
10 years ago I stayed at this hotel on a regular basis, this week Rob ( Hotel Manager ) welcomed me by name and made me feel so very welcome. The staff are excellent as is the food.
I would not consider any other hotel in Humberside.

I dined there on 21st March 2014 with my partner. We opted for the fish and chips as they were on special offer (as seen on their website) and having had these before at full price thought 'what a bargain'. We rang in the afternoon to see if we needed to book as we assumed they would be busy with it being an 'offer' day. We were informed we could just turn up. We arrived and headed for the bar where we ordered our drinks and asked for a table. The barmaid was very polite, showed us to our table and said she would bring our drinks through. We were served our drinks, given menus and brought some bread and dipping oil. We had a look through the menu and decided to stick with ordering the fish and chips. The service was excellent and as before, the fish and chips were delicious and very filling. The waitress brought our bill when we asked and upon inspection we realised we'd been charged full price for the fish and chips. My partner immediately queeried this and was informed that if we wanted the 'special offer' priced fish and chips we should have ordered off the 'specials' board and not from the menu. We were then told the 'special offer price' fish and chips would have been a smaller portion. So not really a special offer then! When we entered the building we didn't see the offer board, it wasn't referred to when we placed our order, and it doesn't mention anything on the website about ordering off the specials board to get the special offer price or in fact anything about portion size. The lack of communication about our options, 'special offer price' and lack of information on the website left quite a bitter taste and we were slightly embarrassed to be in that position. My partner offered to pay the full price as he believes if you have had something you have enjoyed then you should pay what they have billed you for. To their merit they refused our offer to pay in full and only charged us for the smaller portion (I won't quote 'special offer' as I don't believe it is).
If the specials board was made clearer and more visible and the offers and portion sizes explained this cold have been avoided. Having said that, the Ashbourne is a lovely place, the food is amazing and the staff appear polite. We would return.

Thank you for posting a review of your recent visit to the Ashbourne Hotel, you are quite right that it is a communication error, on the days which the Fish and Chip deal is available we would normally make diners aware and, indeed if they order Fish and Chips we would double check which size they wish to order, so apologies for that, i am pleased that you were charged the price you believed you would pay when ordering.

I am also pleased to read that you enjoyed the experience of the Ashbourne and will return, once again many thanks for your review

very best regards

I stay here on business trips on a frequent basis. The last hours drive from the M1 is always filled with anticipation of a lovely fried haddock supper and a pint of beer! The rooms are modern and very comfortable and the hotel has good free wi-fi.

A lovely hotel all round. We arranged a family event here and it was perfect, everything was efficiently organised and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Our thanks to them for making us feel welcome.
The rooms are very good and the food is delicious with plenty of choice. Why would you want to stay anywhere else when visiting this area?

Room Tip: Well worth paying a bit extra for the "executive" rooms
