“Excellent family holiday!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

Myself,my sister, our 6 children and our dad recently visited Kelling Heath for the 2nd time and this campsite is absolutely perfect in every way!! We camped for 10 nights in the Red Squirrel area and found this to be perfect!! The site itself is well maintained and there is very little,if any, litter to be seen. The shower and toilet blocks, which were a 30 second walk away, are always clean and you rarely had to queue for a shower!! We had a family meal in the Forge & Terrace bar, where the catering staff were extremely friendly and could not do enough to make our meal special! The outdoor pool was a welcome reprieve on the hot days and during our stay we had plenty of beautiful sunny days!! The trim trail in the woods was a surprise find!! As were the tennis courts! The Square is a lovely gathering place to have a drink and listen to the many bands that performed during our stay. The campsite is situated very close to some beautiful beaches: Weyboyrne,Cromer,Sheringham,West Runton. All in all, this campsite is the best I have been to and we will be coming back again next year!! Well done to all the staff at Kelling who made our stay the best it could possibly be!!

My wife and I spent 7 nights at Kelling Heath with our two young children from 2nd August 2014.

The site is located only a short distance from Weybourne which is a beautiful little village with tea room, pub, ruined church and steam railway. It is also within easy reach on Sheringham, Cromer and Wells-Next-The-Sea which all have good beaches for the kids.

Kelling Heath comprises of both high quality caravans and woodland lodges. All are set in woodland or heathland. Unlike other holiday parks that I have experienced, the caravans are spaced out and offer a great deal of privacy. The site offers playgrounds and assault courses for the kids, very nice bars and restaurants, a fitness centre and a shop, all of which are well maintained and clean, cycle hire and two nature ponds. The site even has its own station for the steam railway. The staff on site are courteous and efficient.

Our accommodation was a Heron caravan which provided plenty of space for the four of us. It was clean and well equipped and made for a comfortable stay.

On the whole, this is probably the best family holiday we have had. I certainly recommend it to others. We were very impressed.

Stayed for a weekend in one of the new woodland lodges. Could not fault the accommodation, clean, very well equipped, comfortable. Close to the facilities but secluded by the trees. Comes with access to the leisure club with lovely swimming pool sauna and gym. Going again in October.

The pool was just the right temperature. There are lots of activities and places for the children to explore. Agree with other posts about overpriced poor quality restaurants but we ate out or in our lodge instead. Would definitely recommend as a holiday destination.

Having been to Kelling when i was younger, i was disappointed to come back 10 years later to be let down. The restaurant was expensive and we felt like after we had been sat down and other people came in we were ignored. My toddlers portion of food was bigger then mine!! All the other children got little packs and ours didn't and i had to go and get someones attention to pay.

We were camping in the blue area, and when we arrived it was fairly quiet, I appreciate we seemed to arrive before the schools in the area had broken up so it was quieter but goodness me! when people did arrive it was in huge groups who were up past 11 being rather noisy!! ( not good when you have two children one with disabilities to see to)

At other campsites we have stayed at we are given maps of the area, places to eat, number for security, none of this was given and we had to go and ask for it on separate occasions.

The cleaning of the blocks seems lacking, for example today they had said they had been in at 9:42 am.. i went in not 10 minutes later to a wet and dirty floor and dirty toilets.. yes its busy but surely not to get so bad so quickly!

Our plot was oddly shaped which meant that another was able to be made infront of it.. which meant when someone did pitch up we had little privacy.. ( them or us!)

The place has wonderful sights, views, the shop isn't terribly priced, the entertainment was fairly good. Just I don't think in future we will come for so long and we will wait for the children to be older so they can appreciate the things on site a bit more.

Also.. though i doubt this will happen now the new area is apparently nearly finished.. the arrival of new chalets should be done at quieter times! we got stuck coming back into the site due to the delivery of a new one!!

this was our 3rd visit to Kelling Heath and by far the best, Helped by the fantastic weather A family holiday , Mum, Stepdad and 3 adult children in one of the luxurious Lodges, The facilities are excellent and we all enjoyed Kelling Heaths natural woodland, Kelling Heath is a holiday park with a tranquil oasis of calm and nature, that has something for all ages. I would highly recommend a stay.

We've been booking Kelling Heath camp site for some time now on an annual basis with another group of friends. The camp site and it's facilities are superb and you cannot complain about those at all. I don't know many places that offer a shop, pub, coffee shop, swimming pool (indoor / outdoor), cycle hire, gym, petangue, table tennis, tennis courts, football pitches, adventure playgrounds, 2 ponds, dipping pond and many different walks.

We booked from the Friday to the Monday and we were placed in the larger section of the campsite (red). Although busy you wouldn't of known because it was generally very quiet in our area at the time. The pitch was clean and tidy and you could fault the washing facilities either. The staff in general were polite and very pleasant to talk to as well no matter what time of the day.

My only gripe (apart from the distinct lack of free wi-fi, absolutely impossible to connect) about the whole place is the ridiculous prices the pub and cafe charge for food. We decided to eat out on the Friday night so went to the pizza / cafe for food. When my wife came back with 2 jacket potatoes, 1 small pizza and chicken nuggets and chips her face was a picture. I asked what was wrong and she promptly told me the price of how much the food came to. £27.95! Jacket spuds were £5.95 just for a plain spud and then £1 for the baked beans. £6.95. How can anyone justify that amount for a jacket spud?

The second night we'd booked a table at The Forge we turned up earlier than our allotted time but found our table was ready and we were able to take our seats. The staff i have to say were polite at all times and nothing was a problem for them. One them asked the real ale drinkers amongst us what beer we were drinking. When we told her she seemed really pleased and told us that this was a beer made solely for Kelling Heath and that all money raised goes towards the upkeep of saving the Red Squirrel.

We decided to have starter each and sadly 2 of the starters did not come out as described but it was still very nice as well. The main meals were really nice as well, i went for the Kelling Sausage & Mash which came with very creamy mash, 3 big sausages and a selection of vegetables. The steak and ale pie looked very appetising as did the makrel salad which was had by the other 2 adults in the party. The kids meals were very good and came with an small tub of ice-cream for dessert and a drink included. The 2 oldest children decided they'd like an adult meal one of which was the JB burger and chips which was HUGE and would of kept in the hungriest adult full suffice to say the meal wasn't totally eaten.

We were asked whether we'd like a dessert the adults decided no as we were rather full after the main. However, one of the children decided they'd like to have a chocolate sundae. When we saw how much they wanted to charge for this we decided to buy an ice cream from the shop instead. £7.95 for 2 would have been acceptable however, this was not a sharing dessert so for 1 person was a bit steep as having seen the desert come out wasn't particularly big in size for the price.

On the Sunday we decided to buy an ice cream from the coffee shop. The prices we paid for the main food on Friday we should of known this was going to be expensive. We were not let down by that. £1.95 for a tiny scoop in a tub! and no cones either. It was cheaper to buy a tub from the shop and much bigger in size (£1.49). So we politely declined the ice-cream as a result.

The only issue i have really is the price of the food. I guess you're paying for a captive audience as a result. Which is a crying shame because on a couple of occasions families were over heard grumbling at the prices and rightly so.

I love this camp site i really do, but they really must sort out the food prices within the coffee bar / shop and the pub. People look for something quick and easy and also relatively cheap as well which unfortunately this was not.

Room Tip: Avoid eating at the bar / coffee shop, not unless you wish to re-mortgage your house to pay for the...
