“Still works very well”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

A regular base when I'm in this area, usually two to four nights a month, so all the staff (and there are quite a few of them) get to know you. The welcome is always very good and friendly. Rooms are perfectly clean and adequate for a couple of nights at a time. Pub-type menu is loaded with all the traditional favourites, and portions are huge for the prices they charge. Always well cooked, nicely served and tasty. You know to expect, and you get it. Always a large number of locals, (from very young children through to pensioners) using it for food, which speaks volumes of course. I've already booked here for my next three visits, so that speaks for itself.

Hello and thank you for your feedback and comments.
It is with deep regret that we receive your comments regarding your recent stay with us. We aim to leave all guests with an air of satisfaction in relation to their stay and we are very disappointed that this was not the case.
During your check in, which I dealt with personally, you raised you point stated regarding our ground floor bedroom. We are very receptive with guest requests and wants to the point where if a guest can not be accommodated in the way they require we are reluctant to take the booking. We feel if we are unable to meet certain guest criteria after they have stated as such we would prefer to advise them that maybe it is not suitable to stay with us. After correspondence with every member of staff who would deal with phone calls in relation to bedroom bookings non could recall such a conversation as stated in your review and upon check in in regards to the ground floor bedroom now was a special request made during booking via a third party booking agent in which they do ask if there are any special hotel guest requests. As someone who has personally suffered with physical injuries and mobility issues in the past I deeply sympathise with the situation you found yourselves in on check in and quickly ensured that you were in the closest room available to cut down unnecessary travel. I also asked if the booking was ok for you with your daughter being accommodated in a first floor room for the two nights rather than just the one to which you stated that although it not being ideal it is manageable and as I saw it the issue closed, if not I would have strived to help you make alternate arrangements especially with the sensitivity of the issue.
We apologise if there was an issue with shower pressure, we urge guests to let us know of any issues during their stay so that our dedicated maintenance team can resolve any facility failures or hindrances, we would have gladly resolved the issue during your two days with us given notice.
Your booking of a triple room was another issue. The room you booked did certainly accommodate three people but consisting of double bed and a single bed. This is stated both on the booking website for our third party website under guest and room details and on the printed confirmations both yourselves and the Hotel receive. Upon your check in I confirmed room type with you to which you advised me your required a room with three separate beds, a room which is different to the one you booked and confirmed online. With this is mind we quickly moved on of our portable beds which are of excellent standard and are used when our occupancy is extremely high upon the acceptance of guests, to make sure your room was consisting of 3 separate beds. Such a room usually comes at greater cost but considering the misunderstandings and issues encountered we wavered any extra charge. Again I check with you to see if this was to your acceptance when you again declared everything ok. I had numerous exchanges with your party during your stay during which I was not informed of any discontent, if so I would interacted with you to see if there was anything within my power I could do to resolve such discontent.
We do use blankets instead of thicker winter quilts occasionally during summer months to try and dress bedrooms in accordance with outside temperatures.
We serve freshly cooked breakfast or a choice of fruits yoghurts and cereals to supplement differing guest preferences. This weekend in particular was very busy and guests are dealt with as soon as they possibly can by an assigned morning team of staff, during the weekend we drew various compliments from guests in regards to their morning service and meal.
With our ground floor bedroom being around the back of the hotel most guests stopping in said room, regardless of mobility, park at the rear of the hotel for ease of access to the room as the disabled bays are for ease of access to the front of the hotel. Although we have no disabled bays at the rear of the car park we offer guests to take up two spaces should they have mobility issues. The guests stopping in the ground floor room had requested the said room upon booking and we honoured the booking. The first evening the room was already in use. Please be assured if I could have housed you in the said room, I most definitely would have.
I hope this answers any points raised and urge you in future to discuss any issues you have during your stay with the hope of them being resolved. I again offer my regret and apologies that you did not enjoy your time with us during your stay.

We stayed here for one night recently,on our way further North.
Large and impressive place.Large car park with a play ground for children away from the busy road.Check in was quick and easy, friendly staff.Room was ok ,plenty of room, window was a long way from the bed so a bit warm at night without noticeable breeze, having said that, might be just as well because the road gets very busy after 0500,so a bit of traffic noise.Pillows a bit too soft for the Wife, sorted by having one of mine.Shower needs adjusting before you close the door behind you,not much room .Bar and evening meal was top notch, two meals for £11 before 1800.Breakfast was very nice, except the intrusive TV.All in all a very enjoyable stay.Would certainly stop there in the future.

Hello and thank you for a wonderful review.
We are glad you wholly enjoyed your experience with us at the Appleby Inn Hotel. We have made alterations and additions this year, our children's play area being one of them, it has certainly been welcomed by our customers.
We happily assist with any guest needs such as extra pillows or a certain bedroom request.
Our restaurant is certainly a major asset for us as a hotel. Our restaurant and lounge offers wide variety at exceptional standard, all at a reasonable price. Our breakfast rooms offers various options (we have also changed service and menu since your stay) and is waitress served at your table, ensuring a positive start to the day. I have taken your comments regarding the television in our breakfast room, at request of some our regular clients we show the morning news and our seating options to allow guests to escape the dialogue of the TV. We have however been sure to monitor the volume of the TV in accordance with guests position during service and thank you for your comment.
We like our check in to be as speedy as possible whilst still being thorough with offering you all the information you need for your time with us.
We do hope you visit us again in the future and look forward to welcoming you back if you do so.

We stopped here while on a long drive for some tea.

The food was great - superb value for money and HUGE portions.

Service was speedy and we were back on the road well within an hour!!

We both had a diet coke that didn't taste that great (to us) but it was replaced with bottles (rather than the usual stuff) without a problem

Hello and thank you for review!
We do advise you that we have a separate page for our restaurant to our hotel page, we would amalgamate the two but the two differ slightly to suit guest review needs, including the check for availability for the hotel but we welcome such positive feedback on either pages!
We are glad you found your meal great value for money accompanied with efficient service. We aim to keep customer wait times to a minimum without compromising on quality.
With the replacement of the diet coke there may be a number of reasons for the draught to be substandard such as the gas need changing or the syrup need replacing, we replace with bottles before investigating what the issue is as we do not believe in keeping you waiting whilst we do so, we are more than happy to offer you our packaged range in replacement so you can get back to enjoying your dining experience with us.
We hope to have you visit us again in the future.

This is a nice pub hotel with nice rooms and a good bar service. A couple of simple suggestions to improve the offering would be a fan for the room (it was boiling and simply too hot) and the breakfast offering is waiter service, as someone who only has cereal having to wait a full 5 minutes for someone to come was a little poor.

I ate in the bar and the food was okay. I will certainly stay here again.

Hello and thank you for your much welcomed comments regarding your stay with us here at the Appleby Inn Hotel.
Your suggestion with having fans for guests who are hot during the summer months has been taken aboard by us and we thank you for mentioning this. We will admit the soaring temperatures have taken us a little by surprise in the early part of the summer this year and we have prepared measures to make sure rooms do not overheat.
We have since implemented a new breakfast menu to speed up our table service at breakfast, the plans for which were just in progress during your stay so we apologise if you did have to wait longer than you wished for your breakfast.
Your comment regarding satisfaction with the restaurant are much welcomed, we pride ourselves on our cuisine and its excellent value for money, an amenity that we feel is essential for guests travelling on business. The thought of a well cooked meal from a varied menu can be a great help after a long days work.
We look forward to hosting you again in the future should you wish to stop with us again at the Appleby Inn Hotel.

stayed friday through to monday for car club meet. cannot fault our stay, great food, service second to none, well staffed with considerate polite efficient staff members.
ample car parking in well maintained surroundings
we stayed during an unexpected heat wave and we could have done with air con or a fan in our room but given the surprise temperature we can't complain.
in all super value for money, we would definately recommend and come again.

I would like to thank Michael Goss and his entire team for the excellent weekend the Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register Car Club have had at the Appleby Inn, we took over all of the hotel bedrooms for the weekend of 5th/6th/7th July were the hotel hosted our National Rally, Fri 5th we gathered from all over the UK and further a field for a meet and greet, followed by the first of two meetings held in the Adeladie Suite, guest staying in various other locations joined us for meals in the main restaurant, following the AGM we were off on our travels to Coventry Transport Museum only to return later for the Rally Dinner, following Sunday mornings breakfast again we left for Staunton Harold Hall, some guests leaving to return home - but most returning for another nights stay before leaving on Monday morning, everyone either staying at the hotel or visiting for various meals and meeting were most impressed with Michael and his staff, the meals were all amazing and service excellent, nothing was to much trouble, either with diet requests or anything else. Staying in the hotel we had two guest from France, one from USA another from Canada, also 2 more from USA, 3 from France, 2 from Belgium and 1 from Norway spent time there during the weekend. I have received numerous e.mails and phone calls about the weekend and all commenting on the excellent choice of venue. I would very strongly recommend the Appleby Inn to everyone, our room (with 4 poster bed) was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the hotel. Once again thank you Michael and team, we will be seeing you again for club Christmas Meal - Pauline Blake

Room Tip: We were in room 16, with 4 poster bed, large room with large bathroom

Hello Pauline! Thank you for your feedback in regards to your weekend for the Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register Car Club. What a weekend it was! Scorching weather, friendly and happy guests and such a well attended and supported event. The planning from yourself was exceptional and we are privileged that we could contribute to that as your preferred venue.
You cars certainly lit up our car park and were the talk of the local area, many of our regulars and staff were very vocal in praise for the cars and the opportunity to view them, to which the owners were very accommodating.
With such a hectic weekend planned our aim was to provide a hassle free service, be attentive and available but mostly to ensure everybody enjoyed their time with us, and from your review and guests comments during their stay and upon departure we are pleased that this was the case.
The accommodating of guests with dietary needs for your function was exceptionally dealt with by our first class kitchen team, they express their thanks at your kind words as do all the staff. It certainly pleases us to be recognised for their friendly manner and professionalism.
All in all it was a brilliant weekend for us as a hotel, a pleasure to host such an event, we even got treated to some impromptu singing accompanied with some excellent guitar playing on the Sunday evening!
I look forward to seeing you for your Christmas meal with the Sunbeam Club and look forward to welcoming you back with us.
