Stayed here for three nights early in January. Storms raged outside but we were cosy and comfy inside the hotel whether dining, relaxing by the fire or sleeping in our very nice room. We had dinner in the restaurant on two evenings. The dining room is beautiful, the food was delicious and the service professional and friendly. On the middle evening we tried the food in the bar and were not disappointed. It was very good and not expensive. Breakfasts were very nice with a good selection of fruit, cereals and breads from the buffet (though regrettably poor orange juice), a tasty selection of hot foods to order and plentiful supplies of fresh tea/coffee and toast.
During a break in the bad weather we enjoyed a nice walk in the grounds as far as the lake shore and back. Nice to have a chance to stretch the legs without leaving the hotel precincts.
The hotel is very comfortable and the food is very nice, but the whole experience is crowned by the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. You really feel like a guest, rather than just a paying customer, in Glenlo Abbey.
We booked another break at Glenlo before we left.

Dear LandPC,

Thank you for your lovely review which we were delighted to read! We are most gratified to hear that you found the food in both The River Room and The Oak Cellar Bar delicious. Having feasted on lovely food it is also nice to take a brisk walk afterwards and where better than down to the shores of The Corrib.

Thank you again and warmest regards.

My wife and I arrived at Glenlo Abbey Hotel on a dark and dreary evening and were given a very
warm welcome at reception and immediately shown to our very large and comfortable room, our
bags were brought up promptly by a very friendly porter. There was a lovely welcome gift of a
bottle of wine in the room.As my wife rested for a while i found my to a lovely bar with a nice fire
going I enjoyed a lovely and reasonably pint of Guinness. We had a very enjoyable meal in the
hotel and we were so happy with the place we stayed in the bar for the night where there was
a very good sing song.I would have no hesitation returning to this hotel with its lovely settings
and beautiful views. It is only a 10 minute drive to Galway city.

I have been meaning to write this review for quite a while, as we got married there in February 2013.
In summary, the hotel were superb from start to finish. The wedding organisers were excellent, the place looked fabulous on the day, and the reception meal (and canapes, as well as food for the afters) was excellent. Kudos to the chef and all the staff. All guests I spoke to were very impressed with the food, the hotel itself and the rooms.

I knwo that some of the staff have moved on since then due to the change of ownership, but they did a great job.

The price was also very reasonable for what we got and I would definitely recommend it for any couples getting married.

We have stayed in the Glenlo Abbey a few times now and each visit has been better than the last. From the time we arrived on 23rd December receiving a very warm welcome from Sandra on Reception to when we checked out on 27th December with Maura and everything in between the whole experience was just marvellous. The food was exquisite, absolutely exquisite and the service was second to none. One the waiters actually remembered us from a previous visit. We definitely plan on making a few more return visits in 2014. C & E Holton

Dear DHolton,

We are delighted to hear that you found our food and service exquisite, quite high praise! We relish welcoming returning guests back to Glenlo. In fact, rarely do guests visit Glenlo just once and it is always lovely to see familiar faces coming through our doors. Maura and Sandra will be thrilled to hear your kind words!

We look forward to seeing you both again soon!

We love old properties and were Immediately struck by the lovely reception area and the unexpected warm welcome by Maura who is doing a super job -great way to start off our visit and other hotel reception staff could learn a lot here. All staff exceptionally helpful, porter could not have done enough. Hotel has lovely ambience, beautiful high ceilings and open wood fires in common areas with luxurious 'sink into' sofas. We had a superior room which was very large and quiet. It had a marble bathroom with bidet, huge comfortable bed and large flatscreen tv. Very comfortable and enjoyable stay with lots of corridors to get lost in. Clientele was 40+ only saw one family there, which suited us! Bar downstairs with food - portions a bit small especially for men, but tasty. Did not try formal dining room. Breakfast very nice, lovely selection. There was a wedding on when we were there but you would never know it. The stay gave us a good feeling and was a very enjoyable break. Would definitely go again.

Room Tip: Our room no. was 110, very large and quiet on ground floor at the back with easy access to outside...

Dear EileenandMatt,

Thank you for your lovely review which we were delighted to read. Our Ffrench room is so cosy at this time of year with the lights been dimmed at twilight and roaring log fires. It is not uncommon to see guests nodding off in our big armchairs! A marvellous compliment to how relaxed our guests feel here! We will pass on your generous comments to Maura and everybody else here!

Stayed here in November went to Galway for the day and ended up staying over....it was a last minute booking and Maura the receptionist gave us directions over the phone. THE best hotel I have stayed in, Maura is a true asset.

All staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel itself and grounds are stunning. We will be back....this time with our own toothbrushes! Some were kindly provided for us on our stay!!

Rooms and breakfast were amazing. Thanks for everything guys and making our night away one we will remember.
