The avenue to the hotel was impressive and the car parking was plentiful. Our introduction to the hotel was so pleasant. We were met by Sandra on reception and from the word go she made us feel at home. She handled the check in and brought us to our room. For a first point of contact Sandra is a fabulous ambassador for this hotel. The room was brill and the bed and pillows very comfy. Breakfast could not be faulted and again all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We liked our stay, short as it was, and will certainly be staying again. Overall it was a great experience.

Room Tip: Because the hotel is set back from the road I believe all rooms will give privacy and no traffic noi...

From the front desk to the staff in the dining room & the waiter in the "Orient Express" train restaurant we were treated like royalty! Yes, as stated in other reviews.....the Abby is older & perhaps in need of some updating. That said, to much updating would ruin the character of this lovely hotel. Upon checking out I told the young lady that I would be happy retiring there....beautiful scenery, good food & lovely people!

We have just got back from a 2 night stay at Glenlo Abbey and what a fantastic hotel to stay at for a trip to Galway and sightseeing in Connemara. From the moment we arrived we were treated like we were their main guests for the weekend, Maura at reception greeted us on arrival and from there on whatever we needed was instantly looked after. The character of the Abbey is fabulous and very warm and cosy all round, the reception, bar, dining rooms and bedrooms all very comfortable, the beds are the most comfortable hotel beds we've ever slept in. We were also made very welcome by the local regulars in the bar and were given some fantastic information as to where to go for proper sight seeing of Galway and Connemara areas, places we would never have found ourselves, so when we return to Galway again we will definately be heading back to Glenlo Abbey Hotel for the welcome, comfort and service.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a Penthouse Room with a view overlooking Glenlo Golf Course and Lough Corrib.

Stayed here with my husband on a 2 night b&b 1 dinner package. From the moment we arrived we were made so welcome. The staff are all so friendly and professional especially Maura on reception. She is such a credit to the hotel. Our room was warm with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. We had the Sunday lunch buffet which was such a treat, a pianist playing while you eat and a complimentary glass of proseccu, with a huge range of food including a full carvery. We also ate in the bar which was really cosy with a lovely menu. On the second night we had dinner in the river room restaurant, absolutely wonderful. Huge fires burning in the room and the food was to die for. Overall we had an excellent mini break and will certainly return.

Dear Aisling_loves_disney,

Thank you for your kind comments! Sunday lunch here is indeed quite the treat! A glass of bubbly, over indulgence on the carvery to the tinkling of ivory! A perfect way to while away a lazy Sunday afternoon. And just to make you feel better on the way home, a brisk walk down to the shores of Lough Corrib! We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and will pass on your kind words to Maura and everybody here who I know will find them most encouraging.

Warmest regards

I have just come back from a one night stay in Glenlo Abbey, not booked by me! When we arrived we were greeted by Maura who really couldn't have been nicer. The service in the hotel all round was warm and friendly. This hotel is marked as a five star...it needs to be downgraded to a three....possibly 4 star. There is no leisure centre which is one of the things I love when I go away. (it has a golf course but I don't play golf)
We ate in the restaurant that night, again service was great and the food was good. The staff make this hotel. It has a beautiful setting but needs much love.....and money

Room Tip: Don't bother packing your swim suit!

I was in Glenlo late last year and everytime I hear it mentioned or think of it, it makes me sad. I was so looking forward to going to the Abbey and it was such a let down. The bathroom was old and in need of repair as was the bedroom and the dining room. Very old, very shabby all around. The staff were nice, apart from the young barman in the cellar bar who turned the air blue each time he opened his mouth! Sadly I won't be going back or telling anyone else to visit until there is a major revamp!

Stayed here for three nights early in January. Storms raged outside but we were cosy and comfy inside the hotel whether dining, relaxing by the fire or sleeping in our very nice room. We had dinner in the restaurant on two evenings. The dining room is beautiful, the food was delicious and the service professional and friendly. On the middle evening we tried the food in the bar and were not disappointed. It was very good and not expensive. Breakfasts were very nice with a good selection of fruit, cereals and breads from the buffet (though regrettably poor orange juice), a tasty selection of hot foods to order and plentiful supplies of fresh tea/coffee and toast.
During a break in the bad weather we enjoyed a nice walk in the grounds as far as the lake shore and back. Nice to have a chance to stretch the legs without leaving the hotel precincts.
The hotel is very comfortable and the food is very nice, but the whole experience is crowned by the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. You really feel like a guest, rather than just a paying customer, in Glenlo Abbey.
We booked another break at Glenlo before we left.

Dear LandPC,

Thank you for your lovely review which we were delighted to read! We are most gratified to hear that you found the food in both The River Room and The Oak Cellar Bar delicious. Having feasted on lovely food it is also nice to take a brisk walk afterwards and where better than down to the shores of The Corrib.

Thank you again and warmest regards.
