“Glenlo Abbey Hotel - Feb 2014”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

Stayed for one night at the end of February. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, everyone from the Reception staff to the Housekeeping staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The dining room has a perfect atmosphere to unwind. The tables are a good distance apart, the food is great. The restaurant staff make the whole experience really enjoyable, you can wait and order in one of the drawing rooms, then make your way to the table when dinner is ready, its like being a guest in a friends home. Nothing is too much trouble, they make sure you have enough of everything. Breakfast was just as good. We stayed in a superior room and it was!

Although we were here for only one night, it was so relaxing, it felt like longer. The location is close to Connemara and Galway City, so very well placed to visit either.

Room Tip: We faced the railway carriage.

My son and his new wife had their wedding ceremony at Glenlo Abbey Chapel and Hotel. The whole day was a memorable one from start to finish. We were all extended such a warm welcome upon our arrival. The small 18th Century Abbey was perfect setting for the small intimate ceremony shared with all their family. We were then led out to a lovely lounge area where we were served tea & coffee along with yummy fresh baked scones and cookies .After the photos an excellent 4 course meal was enjoyed by everyone .All the food choices were delicious. Later in the evening we all retired to a private room beside the Cellar Bar and again enjoyed finger foods and wedding cake etc. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable and the breakfast the following morning was absolutely delicious and such a large selection to choose from. The attention to detail from start to finish was excellent. I know it will be a very memorable day for the bride and groom but also for all their family who were with them to share such a beautiful day with them.

Room Tip: Most rooms have lovely views as the grounds are so beautiful but ones overlooking the golf course an...

This was our third visit to Glenlo Abbey and we were not disappointed. This is a very special Hotel. I am not sure what exactly it is about the hotel that makes it so special. There is no pool or spa, no amazing views and I found the food in the main restaurant very nice but nothing special. From the moment you arrive you feel at home the staff are the real jewel in this hotels crown, Maura deserves a special mention she is so welcoming, nothing is a problem and she is a fountain of knowledge on things to do, places to eat. The staff definitely make this hotel so special. I have forgotten the name of the young bar man in the cellar bar but he was excellent, very friendly but not intrusive. The bar food was excellent and when we return I will give the main restaurant a miss and head for the bar. I found as we were on a deal with dinner included the choice was limited and hefty supplements applied to pick from the alacart menu. Restaurant staff were very friendly also. Breakfast was just perfect great choice from the cold buffet and freshly cooked hot breakfast loved the poached eggs, best I have ever had.

Rooms were nice and big and the beds very very comfortable however bathrooms probably need updating and I did not like the complementary shower gels and shampoos but to organic for me

If I had a phrase that was suitable for this hotel it would be “there are no strangers in Glenlo Abbey only friends who have never met” This hotel is perfect for anybody who wants to wind down and relax in an old style well run hotel. Its location is perfect for heading out to Clifden and only a short taxi ride into the city centre or as we did strolled in in under an hour.

We stayed in four different locations while in Ireland and this was by far my favorite. From the time we walked into the reception area I felt welcome. Maybe it was the warm, inviting wood fire burning, maybe it was the relaxed yet always professional and pampered feeling from the staff, maybe it's that I just truly felt at home. Lovely decor, period looking but not "old" looking. Sandra at the reception desk was so approachable and so helpful, giving us directions, suggestions. She remembered our plans, always asking how our outings were, so cute. Our room was a bit smaller than our friends who were on a different floor but we didn't mind nor did we really feel it. The grounds are gorgeous! The Cellar Bar has delicious food and the staff was very friendly, accommodating, and honestly funny. We don't golf but if we did, how awesome to have the course right at the front door! Driving is required to get to Galway's City Center but ask for directions for parking once there and you're set. I can't say enough about Glenlo Abbey. I'd love to go back someday...

A must see! The best find in Ireland! Too much to list . . . great staff, food, setting, prices, accomodations. Not a bad word to be said! We will go back to Genlo Abbey for sure! Thanks to Luc and his entire staff! If we did have plans to meeet friends from the UK in Dublin, we would've stayed at the Abbey! When the hotel Manager is your porter, just 'cause . . . you know they will do what it takes to make your stay memorable! Not just enjoyable!

See you soon Luc!
Peace,
Jim & Beth Boyington

Beautiful, old, Irish hotel in the heart of Galway. Rustic, warm fires. Delish breakfast( try poached eggs!) and very comfy beds. Following a terrible night in a hotel near by it was a relief to have some peace and quiet being warm and cosy. Enjoy!

Stayed at Glenlo Abbey during the weekend of April 25th. Really enjoyed our stay!
The room (208) was large and the bed very comfortable (must be larger than Super King! - certainly felt like it - and the view down the fairway and overlooking the Pullman carriages was superb). Sadly the Pullman carriages restaurant wasn't open yet so feel we missed out there. We had dinner and breakfast in the main restaurant which in itself is nicely set out and has a regency character all of its own. Meals were perfectly cooked, well presented and very generous. I was not so sure that the ambient music both in the restaurant and lounges is entirely in keeping with the quality surroundings but it didn't spoilt our enjoyment. In the interests of giving a balanced view my only gripe was that the hotel had run out of peanuts/nibbles to accompany our drinks in the lounge due to a failed delivery but service overall was very reliable and the staff very friendly and attentive - especially at reception. Our shower wasn't very well sealed but made up for by the fact that it was hot and powerful.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel for quality, location, service and reasonable price given all that it has to offer. I will definitely return when next in Ireland on business or for pleasure.

Room Tip: Request a river view which includes views over the golf course
