What a wonderful setting, our room looked out over the golf course and loch, the room was fantastic, with everything you could ask for including a spa bath. We ate here to, the food was first class, and the staff were lovely, we were served by Carly, she is so sweet and helpful,. All the staff we met were lovely and chatty. The breakfast set us up for the day. There is a train set in the grounds you can eat in on certain times.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks over golf course or the train.

Third stay here in 3/4 years.
Not disappointed with hotel, staff and accommodation. Our package included 2 nights b & b, complimentary afternoon tea on day of our choice, one dinner and unlimited golf. We opted for afternoon tea on arrival. Our party comprised 5 couples. A table was laid for us in a private room off the reception. The fare on offer was excellent and portions generous. The dinner on first night was of variable quality. The risotto starter was sumptuous. The hake was slightly overdone and the crime caramel was heavy. The other guests had similar observations. The service was friendly but might have been quicker. The dining room is very well appointed and has a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent with a good choice of quality fresh food. We had a snack on our second day in the Ffrench room. The setting was perfect as was the food but service, though friendly, was haphazard. The Pullman restaurant
has been out of commission on each of our visits but was due to serve lunch on the day of our departure Sunday May 18.Our room was very comfortable. The towels were replaced without asking as part of the turn down service. Still & Sparkling water was replenished automatically. The bed was luxurious. Bath robes were also supplied. Complimentary newspapers were delivered to order each morning. The sitting rooms are really comfortable and inviting. On both nights we enjoyed relaxing music from a talented pianist. Our party has its origins in golf outings. We were warned that the golf course and in particular the greens were not in good condition. The fairways were not cut and it was difficult to differentiate from the rough. Accordingly looking for your ball was time consuming and frustrating. The greens need radical work/replacing. It is a pity as potentially the course could be well worth playing. Glenlo Abbey is well worth a visit.

Glenlo Abbey Hotel is really grand. From the minute you walk through their doors, you are transported to another time. The public rooms are quite spectacular. All done in reds, greens and yellows of the finest brocade. They beckon you to enter them. The Hotel even has its' own ABBEY (hence its' name). It is small but quite dramatic with a loft overlooking the lower floor. But, the rooms are gorgeous. We had a twin bedded room, (much more like a suite) with a double door entry. A large, ceramic bathroom all done in shades of brown and beige. The small sitting area had two large chairs and ottomons sitting on each side of a lovely old table overlooking the garden. The beds were very large and comfortable with a big screen television. The large closets were even stocked with fresh towels and soaps. The hotel staff were very professional and very pleasant. We had breakfast included in our stay (please do it if you can) and it was absolutely worth it. Salmon, eggs benedict, all kinds of food and pastries. And you are about 12-15 minutes from the heart of Galway, and it is an easy drive. You deserve to stay in a place like this, so go and enjoy!! We know you will.

Room Tip: book on a higher floor. They use the lower floors to give to guests who are in or are attending wed...

We travelled as a group of mature women on a really special deal; two nights' bed and breakfast and one evening meal; plus free entry to Kylemore Abbey, and a round of golf, if we were so inclined.

We arrived quite early - before 2pm, but we were made very welcome indeed...none of this rubbish about not checking in until after 3pm! Basic, but comfortable rooms. Gorgeous beds..they use feather mattress toppers...oh, they are so lovely to sink into at night! The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming, helpful with local knowledge, and chatty. The evening meal was really very good...a lavender and seaweed mousse being a really exotic dessert..a delightful creation that slid down easily.

Service was attentive, without being overbearing. Breakfast is cooked to order; no buffet here, so your breakfast arrives hot and fresh. On the second morning there, the staff seemed a little overwhelmed by numbers, as the dining room was almost full. Things were overlooked, or forgotten. Everyone was very nice and apologetic though.

The hotel is set outside Galway, on the N59 - the route to Clifden, which is over an hour's drive away, but it is easy enough to order a taxi to the City Centre. There is a wonderful golf course, and the grounds are fabulous.

The one thing which this hotel is lacking is a leisure centre; or at least a beauty salon. There are lovely cosy rooms to sit and chat in, turf fires, big, squashy armchairs, the smell of burning turf is everywhere, and it is one of the memories we took away with us.

The staff make this place special; they must be hand-picked! A place we will definitely return to.

Spent an over night recently in the Glenlo Abbey Hotel. We purchased a deal on a promotions website offering a special deal. The deal consisted of bed and breakfast and a 4 course meal for €124. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly professional staff who insisted on carrying our bags to our room. When we arrived at our room which was basement floor level, we were instantly disappointed with the dated shabby bedroom. It was clean and had all the extras one would expect , eg, tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water etc. The bed however was the most comfortable we have slept in. Divine. I feel due to our promotion offer we may have been offered a standard room. We made our way to the bar and again staff were friendly and professional.
After our drink we decided to dine , and we were offered a set menu which was part of the deal. If you wanted to upgrade your meal for steak it was extra, which we paid for. The house wine was €40 a bottle which we felt a little expensive but we tried and I regret it was not the nicest.

The steaks were cooked to perfection. When it came to our desert, they ran out of what my husband ordered ,when we asked for an alternative from the full menu, we waited 20 mins and it still had not arrived, so we left and went to bed.The waiter was very apologetic and did offer to have it sent to our room, but by then we just wanted to retire.

Dining room has lovely character, staff were very attentive, breakfast was excellent, very large comfortable bed, however the room and hotel decor did let it down. I find it disappointing that when a promotion is offered a less superior room and menu is offered.

We loved Glenlo Abbey! Everyone who worked there was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The location was nice - away from the hustle and bustle of Galway but still an easy cab ride away. There are multiple rooms to hide-away for afternoon tea or to curl up in front of the fire and read a book. Common areas were beautiful. The free breakfast was extensive and delicious, and the dinner we had at Glenlo was one of the best we had in Ireland. Loved having a pub right downstairs. The standard guest rooms could use a face-lift - they were large and clean, but a little outdated. Even still, we would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends and family!
