This lovely hotel a short distance from Galway City is truly an ideal accommodation for travelers who like to experience the city life with a side dose of country charm. My husband attended a conference at the Glenlo and I was lucky enough to accompany him on the trip. The hotel, in a gorgeous rural setting, was tranquil and peaceful. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. When we arrived, we were greeted by a huge American flag flying at the entrance making us feel so welcome. The reception staff greeted us at all times with friendly smiles and warm hellos. One afternoon, after a long day of sightseeing, I curled up with a good book in Glenlo's charming library. I asked the porter if he could bring me some fresh coffee which he did-- served in a lovely silver pot with fresh baked biscuits and berries. Delightful! The rooms at the Glenlo were spacious and comfortable. Bed size was enormous for Europe, the pillows were fluffy, and the linens were luxurious. For modern conveniences, Glenlo had a business center with free internet service and several computers. A quick trip across the hall and we were able to check our email and messages without added cost. Glenlo has a beautiful, light-filled dining room serving delicious breakfast fare and freshly caught fish at dinner. I had a monk fish entree that tasted better than lobster tail! All in all, I couldn't have been happier with my stay at Glenlo and would definitely stay there again. Taxi service into Galway City is quick and inexpensive. A great way to combine the urban and rural experiences of the West coast of Ireland.

I have stayed in the Glenlo abbey on many occasions now and it has failed to let us down. Indeed we even got engaged at the hotel.

The staff are wonderful; rooms are spacious; food is delicious at either restaurant. the golf course and walks help with exercise which is about as much as we want when we travel to Galway.

All in all a great little hotel.

We had a lovely week-end in Glenlo Abbey. We were made to feel important & welcome from the moment we arrived.
There are no tea/making facilities in the room, but complimentary tea/coffee is available at any hour, & is delivered in silver service with lovely shortbread biscuits.
The room was very spacious with lovely furnishings.
There's a beautiful library & guest lounge with lovely antique furnishings.
The Pullman Restaurant is a must see. It really "transports" you back in time. The food was really good.
My only complaint was that there were some stains on the wall in the room above the bin.
Overall we had a really relaxing time here & I would recomment this hotel for a real "chill-out" break.

No way this is a five star hotel. It's a poor 3 star hotel. Food was bad, no fitness club, no sauna. The rooms were outdated, old wall-to-wall capet (beware if you are allergic), no AC, clogged up washbasin, no towel dryer, no sat tv, bad beds, noise from parking place etc etc. It's outright misleading to market and price (please note the reservation fee) this hotel as a five star hotel. Fáilte Ireland (responsible for the five star rating) needs to review its rating of this hotel. It is a clear negative for the whole Irish tourist industry if international visitors cannot rely on a fair and accurate rating system comparable with the standards of international hotel ratings.

We have three written reports from staff members each indicating the rudeness of this individual during his stay. Furthermore a guest at breakfast similarly was not impressed by the individuals behaviour.

We stayed 3 nights at Glenlo Abbey in May and very much enjoyed our visit. The reception rooms of the hotel are beautifully furnished and just waiting for you to relax. The guest rooms are spacious with marble baths and beautiful views from each window. The staff is friendly and attentive. Previous to our visit, the front desk staff was great about answering my e-mail questions. This property makes a great base for exploring the Connemara region. There is an adjacent 9 hole golf course, and the property is set off from town on it's own spacious grounds. Yes, you will want to take a taxi into Galway as parking is a hassle, but when you return, you will enjoy the serene, quiet setting even more. The food is delicious with fresh fruits and vegetables delivered each day for preparation. We enjoyed every meal at Glenlo. If you are in the younger crowd and looking for the pub atmosphere, this might not be the place for you. However, if you want a quiet, relaxing retreat, this is a beautiful property, which I'm sure you would enjoy.

Glenlo Abbey Hotel offers a 5* Irish experience, in the way that it should be done. There is no attempt at doing a Starwood lookalike, no Spa, no false smiles, no pretence, just friendly efficient welcoming staff offering great fare, in peaceful surroundings. There are so many hideaways, in which to spend time chatting or reading (or snoozing). It is a few miles or about 15 minutes taxi ride from the city Centre, so you can pop in for noise, craic, music and variety, but it is great to come back to the peace and quiet, looking out over the Corrib. If you are 22, maybe the G, in the city centre, is for you, but for me the Glenlo is a true gem. I like my 5* to have its own grounds, space and a good setting. Yes, I am over 22. Oh and there is a golf course in the grounds, along with a lake and a Abbey.
