“A wedding experience second to none”
Reviewed 8 November 2010

I got married in the Abbey at Glenlo at the end of October 2010 and have to say it was the experience of a lifetime. From the first time I met Eimear in August 2010 to the actuall ceremony, everything went like clockwork. She organised everything, set up the Abbey beautifully, looked after me from start to finish. She was always quietly there in the background if anything was needed. Thanks Eimear!

We dined in the Pullman restaurant and the service there was also second to none...so personal and friendly. Food was lovely and the ambience was great. Even though we didnt fill the entire carriage, they booked the whole carriage for our group which I really appreciated.

I cant say thank you enough to the staff for making it such a special time for me any my husband and family. One guy even helped me to pack up the car the next morning with all my bits and bobs!

As for the breakfasts, they were SO good. (We went to Ashford Castle for 2 nights afterward and altho their breakfasts were also good, they werent a patch on the Glenlo breakfast which was freshly cooked. Ashford's fry was pre prepared and then it was extra for anything other than a fry up e.g. omelette, pancakes, egg benedict etc

A lovely lovely place for a civil wedding - so special to thanks to all in Glenlo!

I accompanied my husband who was attending a business function and we stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is nestled 3 miles outside of Galway on spacious grounds which include a 9 hole golf course bordering the Lough Corrib. Rooms were clean, comfortable and well furnished. What really stood out was the great service. The Irish people are so friendly and helpful and the hotel staff was exceptionally so....in the States you generally get this type of attention at top-dollar hotels like the Four Seasons. The Irish breakfasts were delicious. One nice touch is that Irish tea is available 24/7 delivered to your room at no charge. We had afternoon tea in the parlour our first day that consisted of tea, finger sandwiches and assortment of scones and desserts for 14.5 euros, enough for two persons to share. I cannot comment on the value of room prices since it was business travel. Since it's off-season, it did seem rather quiet. There is free wi-fi but connectivity in our room was spotty. This is a popular wedding spot as there is a small chapel (abbey) connected to the hotel. In terms of location, it is 3 miles outside of town so you need a cab unless you have a car. Cabs were kind of expensive- 18 euro to town center. I would return again, if for nothing else, the lovely service.

Spent 2 nights at Glenlo. Large room with large window overlooking the pullman carriages & Lough Corrib. Very friendly & helpful staff. Dinner in the pullman coach was a fabulous experience. Breakfast was chosen from a menu & brought to you hot, unlike these buffet style breakfasts that are cooked long before you get to eat it & are usually tasteless & cold.
Complimentary tea & coffee are brought to your room with the most delicious home made cookies. This hotel is very close to Galway city centre yet could be on another planet as regards its location & service.

We spent two nights at Glenlo Abbey and although it was not a bad experience, we were expecting something a little more from a five star. The decor of the hotel is a drawback. The drawing rooms, etc. were done in a dark Victorian style which we found dreary. The room was spacious and comfortable, but again, the decor lacked. They seemed tired and in need of a spruce-up. The bathroom was very nice with a good shower. The inside of the windows had a child's fingerprints all over them, not a sign of proactive maintenance.
The Irish breakfast was delicious; we opted to go out for dinner in Moycullen, a town just 7 kilometers west of Glenlo. We had the best duck ever at The White Gables restaurant and enjoyed a pub dinner at The Forge - not too expensive and the food was top quality.
The business center consisted of an over-heated room with two very antiquated computers, once of which did not have a mouse. The printer did not work.
All in all, my guess is that economic conditions have prevented many hotels from going the extra mile to keep things in shape. The staff at Glenlo were superior and that goes a long way in the hotel business.

Recently attended a family wedding at this hotel. Absolutely everything was top class. Beautiful hotel, in an amazing setting. The hotels biggest asset is its staff. From the moment we arrived we were spoilt. Accommodation, dining, bar, reception, all staff were so friendlly. A big mention to Eimear who really did everyting possible to ensure that the wedding day ran smoothly. Keep up the good work.

Really lovely castle with beautiful views towards Lough Corrib. No leisure centre (didn't matter to us!) which may explain price for what otherwise would be 5 star hotel. Excellent menu choices and our meal was first class. Special thanks to Sandra, Emer and Aran who were friendly, good humoured, and certainly added to our enjoyment.
