What a wonderful setting just outside Durham so plenty to do. Beautiful deer park and excellent traditional hotel. We upgraded to the super deluxe suite at an £20 per night a really good decision. Breakfast included both mornings and good quality. Dinner on the first evening which again was good. Will we visit again yes. Excellent staff

I found this place very relaxing to stay in, the food was very good and we also had afternoon tea in a little conservatory, it would benefit from something to do inside the hotel such as a snooker room or spa. Outside the front entrance is a dear Park which looks really picturesque, they were busy improving the grounds when we were there would recommend

A magical place

We booked an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast through "Wowcher" and upgraded to the fourposter bed premium room. We found the Hotel and Staff to be exceptional .

The Hotel is set in its own country park land , There grounds are very well kept and if you want a gentle stroll there is a beautiful lake and of course the resident deers to keep you occupied. You can buy deer food from reception and they are quite accustomed to people being up close to them.

The Hotel itself is very tastefully decorated and styled sympathetically with its history. We stayed in the "Shafto Room" which was stunningly decorated with a fourposter bed . There were lots of lovely details in the room to give it that luxurious but quaint feel . The Fourposter was absolutely sumptuous , the windows offer a cosy window seat with the views over the deerpark , and there were lots of creature comforts tucked away such as a Tassimo machine and a mini fridge .

We ate in the brasserie and thought the food was excellent . The brasserie is situated in a beautifully decorated conservatory .

All in all a great place to stay if your looking for a quiet romantic stay !

We like a great deal and the Wowcher deal was exceptionally good , but we would be happy to stay again at full price in a heart beat !

Room tip: Upgrade to the Fourposter room if your want a romantic night !!!

Thank you for such an in depth and fantastic review posted here on Trip Advisor, and thank you for choosing Whitworth Hall.
It was fantastic to read how much you enjoyed room 1 one of our premium four poster rooms, highlighting all the extras in the room, from the views across the deer park to the complementary coffee machine, with fresh milk from the mini bar. I have of course passed on your kind words to all the hard working team, and we do hope to see you return again in the near future.

We only stayed one night but we will certainly return here. The deer park is lovely with loads of very friendly deer. Hotel staff were efficient and friendly and our room overlooked the deer park (room 3) and was great. The bed was comfortable and the room well equipped. We had breakfast and again the was a good choice of hot food and the usual cold buffet, served by a very pleasant waitress.

Room tip: Room 3 overlooking deer park. Corner suite with king bed.
