Beautiful countryside surroundings

Helpful staff, lovely rooms with good amenities. Food was very good, fair choices and a superb breakfast choice. The park setting is glorious. Highly recommended for both single business, couples or families. Deer food for the kiddies to feed the extensive herd of deer and a small kiddies playground in the park.

Nice hotel. Lovely location staff very good .food good. Now to the down side of my visit,
my room was on the ground floor the window just over 2 foot.sq. when looking out i was facing 2 x 20 foot containers and directly under my cell window was the rubbish bins when i asked at the reception if i could pay for a different room was told none available.what good is a nice hotel and when looking out of the dining room window it looks out on to the deer park when the view from your bedroom window is 2 x 20 foot containers and the rubbish bins(very disappointed)

Room tip: upper floor room

Hello
Thank you for taking the time in writing your review and for posting it here on Trip Advisor. It was great to read how on the whole you enjoyed your time with us. I can report that having spoke to the Grounds Men we have relocated the main waste containers and have had replacements too. This will help the out look from this room.

Thank you for your review.

Yours sincerely

Most relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. Room was very spacious and bed was so comfortable. Unfortunately the deer park was not open but they come right up to the fence and hand feeding them was a wonderful experience. It was so nice and relaxing watching the deer as you had your meal or sat outside. Booked with secret escapes so breakfast and first evening meal included in the price. We enjoyed the meals we had and they were all well presented and very tasty. There was plenty of choice at breakfast, we loved the smoked haddock and poached eggs. I really enjoyed the lamb I had and my partner loved his fish and chips and I thoroughly enjoyed the brownie and ice cream. The burger (not venison) was also well presented and really enjoyable. All the staff were friendly and attentive, we both had a wonderful time so thank you. The only problem we had was with the shower screen as it did not want to stay in place, forgot to mention as we left.

Room tip: We stayed in room 10 which was spacious and we slept well

It was great to read how much you enjoyed all aspects of your stay from the rooms through to the service from our hard working team, I have of course passed on all your kind words to them.
Also thank letting me know about the shower screen I will have the maintenance look into that.
Once again what a great review and we do hope you will return in the near future.

We booked this with a 'Living Social' voucher. The setting in the deer park is lovely. The staff were all friendly and helpful, There was free wifi which worked well in our room (room 18). The bed was very large and comfortable. The breakfasts were very good, the cold buffet was well stocked with fresh fruit. The cooked breakfast was just how we like it. There was an evening meal on one of the nights included in our voucher-just the main course was included but we had all 3 courses. My husband chose the carbonara which had way too much pepper, The staff did offer to change it for another meal. The second night we had an a la carte meal which we found the portions a bit small and the service quite slow but we did enjoy our meal. The deer park is the unique selling point of this hotel-we also liked the decor and the staff were lovely.

Lovely hotel in a nice location. Comfortable rooms and nice staff. We Booked 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast a few days ago. The food was really disappointing with the same soup and fish choices on both evenings. Starters very expensive at £6 which consisted mainly of water cress, as did every other dish. Pasta over cooked and venison burger dry but tasted ok once the dressing was put on. (Had to ask for it as not given with the food). Cheese and crackers came with just 4 small crackers. If there had been anywhere else to eat locally we would not have returned to eat the second night, we had hoped we were just unlucky the first night. We wouldnt stay here again as there is no where else to eat out if you only chose BB. Really nice hotel with comfortable rooms but evening meal lets it down.

Hello

Thank you for your review and comments posted here on Trip Advisor following your recent stay with us here at Whitworth Hall.
I do know, rightly you brought to the duty managers attention on the night the issues in relation to the quality of food severed to you, and I have also spoken to the Chef about the points raised, as I have said in past reviews we do use them in a way to develop the property, and move forward.
Once again please except my sincere apologies about the issues raised and we do hope you will return again in the near future.

Yours sincerely

We booked this through 'wowcher' so got a good deal for 2 nights B&B plus dinner and wine on arrival.
We chose well.
What a location, from our room overlooking the deer park to the terrace, to the grounds, complete with small church and family vault for the 'Shaftos' as in Bobby and the famous song, all very interesting.
Dinner was lovely v nice steak cooked to perfection.
A really good nights sleep.
Breakfast was lovely and had everything required except missing marmalade.
Perfectly located for visiting Durham - cathedral, castle etc. The coast - Souter lighthouse was really good. Newcastle and anywhere in between.
Staff were very friendly and obliging.

Room tip: We paid £10 extra for a superior room which overlooked the deer park, very spacious.

Thank you for both your review and for choosing Whitworth Hall for your break.
Fantastic to read how you enjoyed your time with us and the fantastic surrounding area, as for the Marmalade, or in this case the lack of it I will speak to the Chef.
Once again thank you for all your kind words and we do hope you will return in the near future.

Kind Regards
