Very relaxing

Extensive grounds with lake and walks. Friendly staff. Very peaceful yet handy for Durham, not too far from Beamish Museum. Pay a little extra for a largish room with windows overlooking the fallow deer roaming in the park.

Hello

Thank you for your review posted here on Trip Advisor following your visit to us, being just outside Durham as you say is a great advantage, and also only 25 minuets from Beamish Museum too. Nice to see you took the option to up grade to a room over looking the Deer park.

We hope to see you return in the future

Kind Regards

Christopher Ashby

Went here on a secret escapes deal, whitworth hotel was easy to get to took us just over two and half hours. We drove through the grounds, which were extremely well looked after. The room we were given was lovely, bathroom very clean and bed very comfortable. Had a meal the first night, which was exceptional. Then next day we had a full breakfast, also very tasty and then went to feed the deers(which I highly recommend).Went for a countryside walk, then afternoon tea(also recommend). The hotel and staff were really great, staff very polite, professional and accommodating. Would definitely go back again.

    Hello

Thank you for choosing Whitworth Hall for your Birthday treat. Fantastic to read how much you both enjoyed your time spent with us, from the grounds, which Brian and the team work hard on to the food service and property. I have passed on all your kind words to the hard working team, once again thank you for your review, and happy belated Birthday.

    Kind regards

Beautiful old hotel kept in excellent condition set in 75 acres of luscious green fields and trees with deer wondering around, even a lake for fishing.the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was large well fitted out with ensuite. Plenty of outside sitting areas and walks.

Thank you for all your kind words posted here on Trip Advisor following your visit here, I have to agree with you the grounds are great at any time of the year but in May when they all burst into life, it has to be one of the highlights of the season.

We hope to see you back again soon.

We will always remember this stay as the weekend Newcastle were promoted back to the Premier League! We booked a 2 night break through Secret Escapes which included dinner and a glass of wine on the first night. Subsequently we needed an extra night and rang the hotel direct. They were very helpful, gave us a room at a good rate and made sure we had the same room for 3 nights. The hotel is set in large grounds which includes a deer park and it is possible to walk the grounds. If you are looking for somewhere to visit, try Raby Castle
We enjoyed our stay. Reception were very welcoming. Our twin room was clean, spacious and comfortable with good wifi. There was loads of very hot water – something we value greatly. All the staff were very friendly. Dinner was enjoyable with a reasonable choice of dishes and a good wine list. Breakfast was superb - excellent choice including a “cooked for you” service. Ingredients are locally sourced and full of flavour.
I have 2 small criticisms, neither of which would stop me staying here again.
    (1) Service in the restaurant was sporadic. I don’t expect Michelin star service in a hotel of this level, but service at dinner was a bit casual. At breakfast it took a while to order and on one day amidst a lot of guests attending a wedding, we were shown to our table but no-one took our order for 10 minutes and then we were asked if we were waiting for drinks and served someone else’s toast – all a bit chaotic. The breakfast when we got it was worth waiting for.
    (2) Having pulled up the covers on my bed in the morning we returned to find that whilst the pillows had been plumped up, the sheets had not been straightened and were left creased.
Overall a good experience and we would stay again when in the area.

Stayed at Whitworth Hall hotel for our wedding anniversary for one night on a Sunday. We got an excellent deal on a four poster bedroom and breakfast. The room was gorgeous (room 12) had everything you needed and more. Lovely walk around the deer park on the afternoon, luckily the weather was kind to us. The hotel is both modern and old with some lovely art and paintings scattered around the entire hotel. Check out the little Banksy mouse in the female toilets. We ate in the Brasserie on the evening because the library restaurant is closed on a Sunday unfortunately. The food was good. All the staff were lovely, especially Gina, she made us feel very welcomed. Breakfast in the morning is excellent, one of the best we've had. Would certainly stay here again and recommend it highly.

Room tip: Room 12 is beautiful.
