Thank you so much to David and all the team at Whitworth. My husband and I had a truly fantastic day. We cannot fault a thing! All our guests raved about the beautiful hotel, grounds and food. We would recommend it to anyone. Thank you for ensuring a beautiful wedding.

Beautiful hotel in a fabulous location with easy parking. Very friendly staff. This was a 60th birthday celebration & our friend who was turning 60 had a fabulous room. It was a secret escapes deal & represented really good value for money. The Monday evening meal was a little disappointing. The melon starter supposedly came with a coulis which was more like soup. My partner loves steak & ale pie but it was very weird, a deconstructed pie, the puff pastry was under done, the mash was piped onto the plate & was dry, the meat was stewed to death & was stringy & dry. This was in great contrast to the breakfasts which were outstanding! So was the steak on the Tuesday evening which was a bargain, 2 steaks with all the trimmings and 2 glasses of wine £25 per couple. The staff were delightful but rather confused about the deal we had secured. The rooms were clean and comfortable although on closer inspection dusty in the corners, the weather was bad and the heating was put on & when we turned our radiator on the dust was very evident on the radiator & skirting board! We would certainly return but upgrade to the a la carte menu which looked very tasty!

Hello

Than you for taking the time in writing and posting your review here on Trip Advisor following your stay with us whilst celebrating your friends special Birthday.
It was lovely to read how much, on the whole you enjoyed your time with us, but did have cause to highlight a few issues in relation to food service and housekeeping, I have of course passed these matters on to the managers of the department to investigate, and I thank you for bringing them to my attention.
It was also nice to read how you enjoyed the very popular Steak Night, which is held every Tuesday, and on your next visit will hopefully dine from the new Menu.
Once again thank you for your review, and we do hope to see you again.

Kind regards

We met our pals for one night halfway between homes on a Groupon voucher to celebrate Hubbie's 60th. From the Reception (lovely Johnathan who showed kindness and maturity with my Husband's dodgy knee and gave us a walk in shower room) to the Dinner (lovely Benny made our meal very special with her charm and warm hospitality) and drinks served, it was terrific. The place is intimate and timeless. Staff are young, friendly, capable and helpful - a rare thing these days. Must be well trained and encouraged by the Manager I suspect?

The Room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Grounds are stunning and the deer, rabbits and ducks make it special.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and would visit again in a heartbeat - for longer next time.

My husband booked Whitworth hall for a 3 night break after staying there when working in Durham. He got brownie points for this choice as I was absolutely delighted with our stay. From the welcome at the desk to leaving we were treated courteously and looked after well. Our room, no.4 , was a superb room, very unique and overlooking the deer park.It was spacious, clean and very comfortable with all we needed. (My only worry would be the mats on the wooden floor slipped a bit and could be an issue for some....slippy as you got out of bed)
But apart from this everything was lovely. We enjoyed the food ,which was very reasonably priced and always served hot. We had a delicious afternoon tea on arrival and breakfasts were filling. We enjoyed sitting in the lounge sipping our evening drinks and chatting with staff who were always friendly and helpful. Our special thanks go to Prem who was very helpful, a lovely man.The bar and waiting staff were also very professional and willing to assist.
The grounds are beautiful and so well kept, and the fairy dell walk is lovely. We were also able to attend the church in the grounds as it was the first Sunday in the month....it is very historical and a pleasant surprise.
I think this is one of Best Westerns hidden gems and i don't always go back to places I've stayed. ...but this one is am already planning a return visit. Thank you to all the Whitworth staff for making our break so pleasant.

Wow
What a lovely review, thank you for taking the time in posting it here on Trip Advisor following your three night break with us, and well done to your Husband on collecting his Brownie points.
Great to read how much you liked room 4, one of our premier rooms, Prem was delighted with his special mention and of course I have passed on all you kind words to the hard working team. It was also nice to read how much you both enjoyed the walk in the evening around the fairy light dell and had time to attend the Church service on the grounds.
Once again thank you for all your kind words, and we do hope to see you again in the future.

Visited whitworth with my partner for a quiet break away, coming down the drive to the hall is lovely and the locations beautiful, checking in was easy and the young lady with glasses behind the desk was very polite and helpful, our room was on the bottom floor which helped with our luggage the room it's self was a fair size and cleaned well with teas and coffees the view wasn't very good but I suppose not every window can face the park, we got plenty of pictures of the deers and even fed them which was an experience. We booked in the brasserrie on the evening we were greeted and taken to our table which was across from the kitchen seeing the chefs cook was a nice touch too, we both had terrine to start which was extremely tasty and well presented mains we had a grilled chicken and a fillet for myself the meat was good quality and again the presentation was good the dessert was a choc fondant that we shared which was gorgeous my wife loved it, the waitress who served us was very attentive and polite and helped us pick a nice wine which neither of us could pronounce ha. After our meal we enjoyed a little more wine down in the lounge area then retired to our room, the bed was very comfortable and the silence was bliss which is exactly what we wanted, the breakfast and staff the following morning before check out followed suit from the evening all in all our experience was lovely and was a well needed get away hopefully we'll be back soon for more wine food and sleep.

We recently stayed at this hotel for my sons wedding. The reception staff were very helpful but the waiting staff were run off there feet and some had a bad arritude. We had friends that came with us and one is gluten free. We asked several times before we arrived to make sure they catered for this and they assured us they did. At the wedding breakfast everything they gave her she asked if it was gluten free and they assured her it was. Then she became very ill and realised that it wasn't gluten free!! We were disgusted that they had lied and put her at such a risk, it spoilt the whole day.

Dear Maddyann66

Thank you for your review posted here on Trip Advisor, having been fully informed to the situation in relation to the issue as highlighted in your review, once again please excepted my sincerer apologises. I understand the duty Manager on the day who dealt with the situation and the illness was fully aware of the dietary requirements as, as you state noted on the correspondence, along with the Chef. I too have now spoken to the team involved in the matter, and still cannot understand how the illness came about, as like on many occasions we followed the procedures in place to deal with all dietary requests. I have instructed the Head Chef to fully review the measures we have in place to ensure we are fully complaint with current legislation. Once again please except my sincere apologise and thank you for your review.
Yours sincerely
