“worth the wait”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

my daughter and i ate here 26-8-2014 we,ve both been before so knew what to expect sheer indulgence we arrived fully expecting to have quite a wait but got a seat immediately the lady took our order the drinks arrived immediately but they were finished before the meal came but it was worth waiting for the tastiest paninis we,ve had and the white chocolate and raspberry brownie tart was to die for as was the custard tart athough a bit on the small side well of course we had to have another drink to wash the pudding down all in all a lovely day out well done.

“Great bakery”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Tucked in Derwent Street in Blackhill with a reasonable amount of nearby parking. Seating for approximately twenty. Its reputation clearly attracts customers from a wide area which means that it is sometimes a wait to get a seat and there is very little space to stand. The quality of the pastries and cake is worth the wait though and we frequently pop in for the wonderful Chia bread. Good sandwiches and excellent breakfast menu. Service tends to be slow which is not a problem for us usually except that there can be a considerable gap in between receiving tea or coffee and then food, which means drinks are either finished or lukewarm before starting to eat. Takeaway available.

“Tasty little cafe”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

Stopped off at this cafe on the way to consett from Newcastle a little bit of a detour but well worth it.
I went on the recommendation of TripAdvisor and wasn't disappointed.
A tasty club sandwich with thick cut bacon in they're own baked bread. Key lime pie to follow.
I bought bread and extra home baked cakes to take away.
My husband ate the hot beef sandwich and award winning baked custard flan.
We will be back next time we are near the area.

“Amazing”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

I have been going to Sweethart since I moved to the area 18 months ago. Most recently I went for the afternoon tea, which was unbelievably good. I have had afternoon tea all over the country and in terms of quality of the food this was better than the Ritz. The sandwiches were so good, there were cheese and biscuits, grapes, quiche, vol-au-vents, scones with clotted cream, fresh strawberries and jam, macaroons, egg custard slice, mini strawberry and chocolate tarts, and Victoria sponge. Everything was homemade and everything was perfect - for £9.95 this was incredible value for money. Also, the coffee here is the best in Consett by far, they make proper flat whites like you get in Australia, not the rubbish they serve at Starbucks. From previous visits I would just like to add that the bread is brilliant, SO much nicer than supermarket bread, and it is really not a surprise that the egg custard tart has won awards! Also the cheesecake is the best cheesecake I have ever tasted (especially the passionfruit one!), it is like no other cheesecake on earth. Oh and the breakfasts are great too, especially pancakes and bacon. These days Sweethart always seems to be busy so there is a bit of a wait sometimes but it's totally worth it.

“Good Coffee and Custard Slice”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

A cosy place situated on a one way street, but friendly staff, hot coffee and a fine slice of custard tart.
