As the title says. Left me amused but true. Meal I had was pleasant. The room was quant but the ensuite was inadequate toilet didn't flush without taking off the listing flush. the sink leaked and there a few maintenance issue within the main areas of the hotel, needs a makeover. Booed on late rooms as a one off an not again price wise a bit much for room only.

I booked the hotel via Laterooms.com; it wasn't the cheapest but looked good value with some reasonable reviews & nice pictures. It had a 3 star ratting only to find it 2 star AA rated.
After being given a double room (we'd booked twin) then offered a filthy run down room & being embarrassed by questioning staff we got an acceptable room. Although the beds & towels were clean everything in the room was very tired, we were also very tired and weary, so decided to try and make the best of it so we decided to stay.
Over the next couple of days we began to notice more problems, damp & peeling paper in the corner, mould around the window, a huge hole in the bathroom door, the shower screen had obviously been broken & had been removed, the remains of which were covered in gaffer tape.
In the end, we decided it was very much a matter for environmental Health, not to mention Health and Safety, so I I took several pictures & will be sending these to the relevant authorities.
We have senses of humour, and so we both kept laughing, comparing it to Fawlty Towers & expected Manuel to appear somewhere. The breakfast was perfectly good & the dining area was clean & fresh. Unfortunately on the last morning when we came down for breakfast the staff had been informed that there were no breakfast to do! After a little rushing about they got our breakfast, this was funny at the time but seemed to be the icing on the cake to our stay!
The ironical thing was that on their web site & business literature they call the hotel "The Pride of Batley"!!! Poor Batley! Certainly a contravention of the Trades Description Act.

We bought a voucher of wow, the first attempt to book it was a nightmare, spoke to one man and he was too busy talking to colleagues was not listening. I was reassured it was booked, I asked for a confirmation email but never received it. I telephoned days later to just confirm and as expected it wasn't. I was furious as we had all booked time of work, he was rude and arguing on the phone saying he had booked what I requested. Again I was reassured the booking had been made CORRECTLY this time. Days later still no email. When I rang a young lady reassured me it was booked she was very helpful unlike the previous man I spoke to.

On arrival the bungalow looked nice, all newly refurbished. But once settled in we realised it appeared to be finished very quickly and not to a great standard. It was clean but no blinds up in the kitchen, dining area. There was a back door, locked and a metal gate on the outside bolted so no other fire escape except the front door. The boiler wasn't working and once they fixed it again next day it broke so no hot water! There was no facilities to hang clothes up, or draws for clothing, in the kitchen which seemed modem had no pots or pans or dishes for cooking with, under the boiler was all exposed walls not finished.
It defiantly seemed like a rush finish to earn some cash!

The staff we met in the hotel were very helpful, we met Robert who was on reception and he was very pleasant and was bending over backwards to ensure we were ok.

We defiantly won't be going back again.

This is a small, 2-star hotel that seems to be working towards a higher rating. My wife and I spent two nights, and made the sensible decision to upgrade from a standard room to one with a four poster bed. Our upgraded room was excellent, but from what we saw, the standard room wasn't all that great (we were shown both rooms so that we could decide whether to upgrade or not). The upgrade cost an extra £10 per night. I think there is only the one four-poster room.
The staff were friendly, and the hotel itself is pleasant, but it is outside the town centre in a not particularly attractive or interesting location, in a mainly residential area of elderly terraced housing. There is nothing much to do in the immediate vicinity and after checking in we drove in to the town simply to have a look around and find somewhere for something to eat, ending up in the cafe of a rather dark and unattractive branch of Tesco (more recently in the news for refusing to help a shopper look for her lost child!)
Batley is an unattractive town within a larger urban conurbation, but the hotel nevertheless provides a good location for touring West Yorkshire, and is conveniently located for some of the area's historic buildings, museums and other landmarks, or for visiting Leeds and other nearby towns and cities.
We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel on both days, and found the food of high quality - certainly better than the hotel grade might suggest. The only down-side was that the restaurant area was very quiet and lacked atmosphere as a result - on our first night, we were the only diners, and there was only one other occupied table on the second night, and never more than two or three tables in use at breakfast. Most of the other hotel guests seemed to be van drivers or workers simply in need of a room for the night. Perhaps because there were so few diners, we also found the restaurant quite chilly, especially on the first night when the weather was cold and wet.

Room Tip: If staying as a couple, pay extra to upgrade to the four-poster room if it is available.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay with 2 course evening meal included. The hotel was very clean, although a little dated. The carpets for instance were a little worn. We were made to feel very very welcome and our room overlooked the garden. The room was excellent. It was clean, spacious, very quiet with all facilities that one expects nowadays. The only negative note is that we appeared to be the only couple in residence. The town of Batley was very disappointing but a fabulous base to explore the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Hotel is on a cobbled drive surrounded by private housing so would feel that all rooms would be quie...

We took up a Dealcloud weekend offer -- suspiciously cheap, but the description of the hotel on their website looked OK, and it seemed (and was) a good base for exploring the local countryside, Yorkshire Sculpture Park etc. First the good points: friendly and chatty staff & manager, good breakfast, decent evening meal on the Saturday (no dinners on Sunday -- we weren't told that on registration, and the website says, "Each evening, the restaurant serves a carefully created, mouth-watering menu ...").

It also says, "Set in 2.5 acres of beautiful tree lined gardens" -- LOL! The gardens consist of about half a tennis court's size of lawn and bushes, with a few trees at the edges, plus an overgrown, scrubby, uncared-for wooded wilderness of much the same size. The "2.5 acres" must refer to the whole groundplan owned by the hotel, the great bulk of which is occupied by the hotel itself and its car park.

"Wonderful surroundings": that must be the tract of semi-derelict land (presumably a failed building project) between the hotel and the surrounding down-market edge-of-town housing. The website pictures give the feeling of an elegant small country hotel -- the countryside is quite some distance away, alas.

The shower in our bathroom didn't work -- the fault was such that it clearly had not worked for some time -- so we changed rooms after the first morning. The second room was OK, though with creaky floorboards (a feature of the upper storey), but the wardrobe featured a half-empty bottle of vodka and an unused bottle of sports tonic -- so presumably the room-cleaning leaves a little to be desired. The most puzzling feature, though, was a notice in our bathroom -- and presumably in others -- saying that the water was not drinkable! What on earth have they done to the mains supply??!
