We stayed in the cottage. Was very nice, spacious but hadn't been cleaned before we arrived! Microwave was very dirty! Bathroom floor was very dirty and the floor boards underneath must have been rotten as we nearly went threw floor! Beds were clean but hard and needed new pillows! Had food in hotel and was lovely , Robert and mark couldn't do enough for us , very friendly, chatty and very welcoming .

Had a few days away with my hubby, mom, auntie & uncle in the cottage in the grounds. It looked freshly decorated, clean and had great kitchen with all mod cons. I'm a wheelchair user but can get about for very short distances on crutches, so although I do prefer wheelchair access, I didn't specify a need, however, once inside the property, there's no problem as the kitchen, diner and lounge (with double sofa bed) are all open plan. Access to the cottage can be a little tricky if you take the side path (tree roots) but across the garden is fine (as long as you don't find a car decides to park at the top of the steps to the garden) however, when we did find this caused a problem, the staff got it moved really quickly. As far as the bathroom in the cottage, it has a jacuzzi bath, wonderful shower, and heated towel rail. The lounge has a very comfy leather sofa (sofa bed) and a huge telly. Wifi is accessible from the cottage too. The cottage is neutrally decorated, with a good sized double bedroom plus a okay sized twin room, bathroom is a bit on the small size...but hey!, how long do you normally spend in a bathroom????..........the staff are really helpful, especially Adil and Robert, the food is REALLY good, didn't take breakfast there but eat twice in the evenings....steak cooked to perfection, delicious lamb shanks and lovely hand cut chips, very good prices too. The bar area is small but comfy, the dinning room basic but serves its purpose. All in all a really good stay and better than expected having read some horrendous reviews.......all I'd say to those people is did you bring it to the attention of the staff and give them chance to sort it for you and/or are you expecting 5 star luxury but wanting to pay B&B prices????? I can't comment on the rooms but I'd say give the cottage a go for sure. Oh and it's pet friendly!

Room Tip: Try out the cottage.

Terrible is even too high rating for this property. Was meant to be staying there tonight for 2 nights on a GoGroopie offer. On checking in the receptionist who was very polite and friendly advised we were staying in room 15. My first question was "was this an accessible room" to which I was told that the room was located at the top of a flight of stairs. I said that this was not suitable and at the point of booking I advised that we had a disabled person in the party who could not manage stairs. They said that there would not be a problem hence the reason we booked the GoGroopie voucher. She went to speak to the manager who came out to us and we were advised that they had no twin rooms on the ground floor but we could be offered one of their recently refurbished rooms with a kingsize bed in it. We were taken to view this room along a narrow corridor littered from one end to the other with stray folded down function tables and stacks of chairs. On opening the door the smell hit you like mustard gas. It was disgusting like a dirty old ashtray. This room had definitely not just been refurbished or if it has been I would be asking whoever had done it for a refund. It also claimed to be an executive room obviously there are two different types of executive rooms. After refusing this he asked us to try the stairs to see if we could manage. After a struggle to the top of the staircase which posed a threadbare carpet we were shown to the room which was could only be only be described as dire. The room was of single size with twin beds in it. The door hit the bottom of one of the beds as you walked in. Swinging a cat would have been near impossible. The wallpaper was hanging off the walls and that was just my first thoughts I didn't even get to checking out the cleanliness of the bathroom or anything as it was just far too small. The manager stated that this was a standard room and what did we expect as this was "NOT THE HILTON" gasp shock horror. We went back down to reception and were offered 2 rooms which would not have worked as the disabled person requires help during the night. We then were advised that the hotel was in the process of changing it's name to Healey Hotel and had a sister hotel down the road that could possibly accommodate us. The receptionist checked and the 2 rooms that she had in mind were both occupied so this was not an option. The only other option she could think of was the bungalow which was in the grounds but upon asking the manager refused her suggestion saying that it hadn't been cleaned since the last occupants had left which I found very hard to believe as why would you have a properly available to let that was not fit for purpose. Anyway after all this in the end we felt that we were unable to stay in the property and came home. We now face a fight with the merchants GoGroopie who we tried to contact while we were still at the hotel which was an answering service stating that they were in the process of changing office location so could not answer the phone but that they were working hard to restore normal business by the 3rd week in Feb. Think they are a little behind as it now the 3rd week in March. Let the emailing fun begin.

Room Tip: Stay in none of them. Get a refund.

Oh Dear

Just goes to show how deceptive the internet can be! Hotel Describes itself as the "Pride of Batley" which doesn't say much about Batley really - Hotel is run down, 1970's decor, mismatched furniture and hasnt seen a drop of paint in years! Arrived at 2030 to find that the Chef was going home and no food officially available??! Really?? it felt like I was in a time warp - I thought we were in 2014 not 1973! Managed to get some food eventually - one one choice but was hungry so took what was on offer. No offer of a pudding and had to ask for a drink! All draught beers were off so had to be bottled. My room was allegedly an executive room - just about passable as a standard room so dont want to think what they were like! Room smelled a bit strange - possibly damp? Compare this with a Premier Inn and we are talking poor - very poor indeed! Hotel Manager quite jolly but a little eccentric. To be honest, I just wanted to have some food, get clean and sleep after a very long day - but would I stay again? Absolutely NOT!!

Ok so the evening meal and breakfast were good, can't quite understand why the chef is working there !! Booked a room reduced to £29 with patio view hair dryer trouser press etc etc as described on late rooms. When we arrived put in small room no facilties due to personal reasons and being emotionally stressed I didnt really take much notice at the time. During the night with springs sticking into us and the smell of sewage in the room I started to think perhaps the room was not what we booked !! When we checked out we mentioned our concerns and were told we were in the wrong room !! I asked to see what type room we should have been given it was spacious and clean in a new part of hotel. There was no offer of a refund for the room. What we did mention was that we were looking for a hotel to use regularly in the area and would also sometimes bring guests
with us !! Would never stay again!!! Also the room we were in should not be used as accommodation room 4 !!

Room Tip: Just don't book there
