The staff were lovely, the food was delicious but it is 1.36 am and I am awake because a couple in another room are having a conversation - Not an argument, no raised voices, just a discussion but I can hear nearly every word! Yesterday morning at 2 am someone decided to have a bath, I heard the water run, I heard their body squeak against the side of the bath as they got in and then washed themselves and then finally it was as if the water was running away through my room.
Do not stay in the courtyard rooms, they have paper walls and you will get no sleep. I can't wait to go home to have a rest!

Room Tip: Do not stay in the courtyard rooms

This is a lovely old house with quite a few modern building attached or surrounding it, but the blend of old and new goes well. We stayed here for a wedding weekend and it was difficult to critisise any of the service or standards. We started with drinks in the gardens which were attractive followed by the formal reception. The table decorations, the hall itself and the food were all of a very good standard. Staff were very polite too. Our accomodation was a small bungalow type of room, very comfortable bedding, spotlessly clean bathroom with hairdryer etc. Tea and coffe were plentifull. The following morning started with a full cooked breakfast in a very roomy restaurant atmosphere. The selection of cereals, teas, coffees as well as fruit was very good. This is a great place for a wedding reception and I really enjoyed my stay.

Owners of this hotel get undercover and stay in some of the rooms they are poor.

Broken furniture, bedside lights not working, dodgy towelrail, dirt in windows, cobwebs in various corners, poor shower, bath so high from the floor you might need to absail down the side to get out, trailing power leads instead of fixed sockets, no soundproofing whatsoever between rooms, soap dispensers that were reluctant to give me any soap (I needed my negotiation skills to persuade it to come out), no heating in the room, tables at breakfast not cleared until you ask them to clean them - Too tired to go on anymore.

You should let people know that there are conferences on all the time and that getting a drink in the evening needs a seperate bar for us small group of travellers

However as with everything there were good things.

The food is very good and the Chef is excellent and is a good standard bearer for the Hotel.

Bosses you need to keep people like the Chef but you will begin to lose people if you don't buck your ideas up.

Go on I dare you to sleep in a few of your rooms

I used to loathe using Premier Inn type hotels but when you have places like Highgate House PIs' will win everytime.

The Highgate was in desperate need of a makeover , as everything was old and dated except for the bed which was actually the best thing in the hotel.

Food was ok, staff attentive but I don't want to to listen to the guy next door unzipping and using the toilet and I don't want to hear every word from people speaking in Reception.

If you are going to maximise room space use proper insulation.

The "new" dining room/breakfast room was modern but it only makes the rest of the hotel look dated and tatty in comparrison.

Predominantly used for conferences/meetings so large groups enter the bar at the same time making it difficult to order one or two drinks and they block up the bar making it hard to get to.

Then they all go to eat and then you become an after thought in the restaurant as they are busy getting 20+ people their dinners.

Come on Highgate get some decent insulation in the rooms, get some whitener to make the bathroom tiling look less mouldy, put down some decent carpets and keep things looking as new as possible - I think they call it maintenance????

Room Tip: choose one as far away from reception as you can get

We recently got married at Highgate and had a fantastic day, in no small part to the wonderful and engaging staff, idyllic setting and well maintained venue. In the 18 months we spent planning our big day, we paid several visits to Highgate House in order to assess all aspects of the venue. On these separate occasions we stayed the night and had a 3 course meal and each visit left us full of praise.

The wedding itself was everything that we had come to expect from this venue - exceptional.

Our review can be found on hitched.co.uk, but special must go to Jo Kelly for all of her help organising the venue and our vendors. Also our Master of Ceremony Sara was a joy to work with on the day helping everything go as smoothly as it could. It was also nice to have a chat with the Head Chef in the evening when I bumped into him.

A highly recommended experience

Room Tip: Old House rooms were brilliant, though more expensive than the standard rooms

Our stay was nothing short of excellent, and this is due to the Highgate House staff being willing to look for every opportunity to demonstrate cheerful, helpful professionalism. The chef in particular took time to come out and ensure that one of our party (who has special requirements) was completely happy with her meal, despite being busy.

Its amazing what a difference a strong staffing team can make to your ability to relax after a long day, and we will DEFINITELY be returning when we do our exhibitions next year. The five of us gave a total of 10 thumbs up.

We attended a wedding which was great, nice food and good room and facilities BUT our family room was like hidi hi 1970's holiday camp, cold drapht through terrible windows, 100m from the hotel main building and couple of cockroach for extras, the bsthroom had mould in the grout and in all was terrible. When leaving and complaining that we didn't have a shower as the bathroom was so cold and dirty, the receptionist said; we are limited on family rooms?? YOU DIDN'T FAIL TO CHARGE £120 though..... Would I stay again NO 40 minute taxi would have been cheaper than staying..

Thankyou for your feedback on your recent stay with us.Please accept my apologies for not meeting your expectations in so many ways-we will learn from your comments.I wish to assure you we do not have cockroaches at Highgate house but being in the middle of beautiful Northamptonsire countryside we do have plenty of wildlife on site including several beetles.I hope I have put your mind at ease ,at least ,in this respect.
