“beautiful facade, but not the service and style to match”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

The photos of the old house on the website are a little misleading, as once you drive into the complex it more resembles a 70's council estate. Certainly the bathroom fittings in our room also didn't seem to have been modernised either.

We were staying as part of a dinner deal. The food was lovely, but there were not enough staff at dinner or breakfast to make you feel looked after. However there is free tea and coffee available (I assume for ease and less staff to facilitate all the conferences)

Had the most amazing stay at the Highgate House. We booked on a late Easter deal and managed to get the Honeymoon suite, which is without doubt the most amazing room I've ever had the pleasure to catch 40 winks in ( or should I say 400 as the night sleep I had was so splendid!!)

We had an incredibly pleasant, easy, informative check in, and ascended the oak staircase to our room, by passing the library and baronial hall for a few open mouthed moments.
Entering the room (cue more open mouthed moments) we found a most stunning sight, beautifully decorated and spotless place to spend our Easter break.
Walks around the stunning grounds and lounging in the coffee bar (complimentary lattes on the go btw!) took us until it was time to get ready for Dinner.
Dinner was delicious and incredibly satisfying portion wise, something I've often found to be a problem elsewhere when purchasing a package with dinner included.
The nights sleep was blissful, as was the sunrise over the fields from our window when we awoke the next morning.
A hearty breakfast awaited us, with a very passionate chef ready to prepare our eggs and chat about nearby attractions (what a credit to the hotel by the way, he is fabulous!) and after consuming our body weight in a tremendous selection, we left with nothing but 100% satisfaction for our very few pennies!!
Would not hesitate, and will be, staying here again!!!

Room Tip: Main House rooms are best :-)

Excellent service, great food & spotless accommodation. There were bowls of fruit in the lounges, together with coffee machines dispensing good coffee. There were also bottles of mineral water for anyone to help themselves to & boxes of tissues dotted around. Daily & Sunday papers were available to all in the lounge. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly. My only criticism is that some of the rooms are a distance from the main house and in bad weather, this could cause some discomfort as there are no covered walk-ways. Best to enquire on booking if this could be difficult.

Room Tip: If you don't want to walk to the main building, ask for a room in the house.

Absolutely delightful from booking to checking out. The management should be proud of their whole team as they are a credit to the company. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with lovely rooms and well appointed bathrooms (fantastic shower). Breakfast was one of the best I've had in a hotel in recent years with lots of choice available. We will definitely book with this hotel group again. Thank you for a delightful time

Rarely do I find the need to stop in this area due to the geography, but this night I did and I unearthed a treasure !
What a delight to see all the spring flowers and shrubs in the late afternoon sunshine - the smell of freshly mown grass everywhere.
The most attentive Czech receptionist and a really comfortable, spacious room.
I never eat in good restaurants alone whilst away as I consider it excessive, but the restaurant looked excellent and the bar meal I took was excellent.
Breakfast was wonderful, with Lee the well time served chef giving a great promotion of the hotel and the others in the small group.
Really enjoyable stay - thanks to all.
