This is a beautiful Manor House hotel steeped in history, but not all rooms are in the main residence. You need to book these or will be placed in an outside extension off the main building. Lovely quaint feel to the Manor House rooms, I felt like I was taken back in time which is the whole idea. So don't rate this hotel as dated - that is the idea!!!
Staff service was excellent. ! Food is wonderful and reasonably priced for this type of Hotel. There is a swimming pool and Sauna on site and Free parking and WIFI.
A wonderful stay!
Dear Carol M,
Your kind comments are greatly appreciated. It looks like you enjoyed using all our facilities as well as the ambience of the Main House. The bedrooms located in our other areas have a modern decor so we hope we can cater for all tastes !
It was also pleasing to read that you were well looked after by our team and you enjoyed the meals you took with us,
There is no excuse for you not returning soon !
Best Wishes,Paul williams,General Manager.
Worth every penny, location is beautiful and close to shopping and attractions. Room was small but nice. The pool was really nice and was a lovely extra to the hotel. The best part was the food. Everything we ate there was amazing! Was nice to have a walk around the grounds too.
Dear Sarah B,
Thankyou for your review-it looks like you really enjoyed your stay with us so hopefully you will return soon !
Our Head Chef and his team will be particularly pleased to read that the highlight of your stay was the food,
KInd Regards,Paul Williams,General Manager.
Stayed here overnight in a superior room. The room was huge, not outstanding but very pleasant. The staff make the difference at this hotel, from the receptionist who are consistently upbeat, polished and very helpful, to the chef who went through my dietary specific options with sound knowledge and endless patience (thank you Rachael) and not excluding the staff who provided room service, unobtrusive and courteous. Pleasant stay in a very pleasant hotel with staff who are a credit to the Sundial Group.
It is always a delight to read compliments about our team at Highgate and especially when individuals are mentioned for "going that extra mile" Your kind words are very much appreciated and will certainly be shared with all those concerned,
Thankyou,Kind regards,Paul Williams,General Manager.
We visited Highgate house for a wedding and stayed the night. The weather was good and so we were able to take advantage of the lovely lawn area which was fairly private and where drinks and canapes were served before the wedding breakfast. The room for the wedding breakfast was full of character and the food and drink was good.
Our en-suite room was large and comfortable and well equlpped and in the new Cedar wing of the house. We thought it would be nice and quiet as it was tucked away (and quite difficult to find initially) from the hustle and bustle. However, the bathrooms had been fitted out with very noisy fan extractors when the light was turned on and unfortunately we were disturbed by our neighbours extractors grinding away each side of us everytime they turned their bathroom lights on. Because there were windows in the bathrooms there was absolutely no reason to have extractors there at all. On the other hand the included breakfast next morning more than made up for the annoyance. The hot and cold buffet was scruptious with a wide variety of food to suit all tastes and eggs cooked to order. We were unhappy about the noise problem in the room which has brought our rating down but when we told reception about the problem when we settled our bill, they apologised and said it would be looked into.
Dear Helen T,
It was lovely to read how much you enjoyed yourselves both during the wedding you attended and your overnight stay with us.Please accept my apologies for the noisy extractor fan in your bathroom. We will do our best to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
I do hope you will return soon to Highgate and that you will enjoy the remainder of the Bank Holiday Week-end,
Kind Regards,Paul Williams,General Manager.
Steak burnt and over cooked
Date stone found in sticky toffee pudding
Woken at 00:20 by very noisy guests shouting across to each other from their rooms, then kept awake until 02:00 because I could hear people talking and coughing. Seems like theres no sound proofing at all. Poor nights sleep as a result.
No intelligent room allocation. If the hotel knows there will be a rowdy group of people it makes no sense to put a couple in a room in the middle of it all!
Flushing toilet and running tap made a loud rumbling noise so couldnt flush or wash hands during the night for fear of waking everyone in nearby rooms!
Booked as a treat through Red Letter Days but didnt feel like a treat at all. Red Letter Days says this is a "hotel escape" but it seems more like an overnight venue for business people to stay at after a day of meetings. Disappointing and not what I expect of RLD or a hotel which states it is 4 star!
Website images are very misleading. It shows you pictures of the House itself but not the accommodation area, which looks like an old holiday camp and very much in need of some maintenance.
No digital TV and poor reception
Breakfast times are relatively short
The door to the room rattles when other guests shut their doors and isnt sealed so lets light from the corridor into the room.
Once reporting the noisy toilet and being awoken by other noisy guests the only options that were offered were to send someone from maintenence or move us to a smaller, un-refurbished room. No suggestion of compensation for a poor nights sleep (as you would get at a Premier Inn) and no option to move to a nicer room. This takes my review down ftom a "Poor" to a "Terrible"!
Free internet, no hassle connecting
Apart from above food blunders, quality was high, well presented and well priced.
Good size room
