I booked for six people for a friend's birthday present, admittedly it was a special offer through a deal site, £50 per person, bed and breakfast and three course dinner, an absolute bargain. The staff were lovely, very helpful. The bar area was lovely with log fires and comfy sofas, the prices weren't too bad either. Dinner was great we all enjoyed the food and the portions were more than adequate, very tasty. Beds were comfy and to finish off a perfect stay the breakfast was great. What more can I say it was great, there was a wedding on and we had a little peek at the wedding venue which looked very nice.

Booked for one nights stay for a wedding 29/12/13. Rooms cost £99 per night inc breakfast. Couldn't check in until 4pm, when we did check in the rooms are dark, very cold and dated. Rooms could be bought for £45 on the day but as we had pre booked for the weeding they charged us £99.00. The breakfast in the morning was freezing cold, how can a plate of food come out 5 mins after ordering it and it be stone cold and I mean stone cold. The staff here are some of the best I have seen in many hotels, some 5 star. Who ever is training them deserves a special mention as they were all fantastic. The wedding went off well and the staff again were great. Shame about the rooms and breakfast. P.S. Prices of drinks is expensive.

Room Tip: Don't pre book, wait until the day for less than half priced rooms

We were here to celebrate a friends wedding and decided we would stay over. The service and food for the wedding were second to none. Having been told that we would probably be able to check in early we had to wait and then our room which was extremely spacious and clean was not as warm as we would have liked. Perhaps spending less a little more on the heating and less on the t.v.s would make provide that step!

Room Tip: request a quiet room away from front entrance and bar.

First impressions upon driving up were great! Once inside greated by a shabby reception with poor standards. The room is also very average. Lots of cleanliness issues and bed smelt damp. Slept very well and enjoyed the food here but as i said at the top its just ok.

First impressions really do count for a lot. This hotel failed as soon as we got inside. Firstly we seemed an inconvenience as the check in staff were busy with some other issue. Secondly, when we got to our room we found the door kept ajar with dirty towels. The room itself was average and accompanied by an array of cobwebs.

The bar area is nice but rather expensive. We didn't eat there but the food looked good.

The nail in the coffin for us was the noise from the wedding reception room. This was fairly dull until the outer door was opened to let drinkers and smokers outside. This allowed the noise levels to cause us a severe disturbance until after midnight. This must cause a problem for the nearby village.

To compound the above the fire doors slamming shut all night long was really bad.

Breakfast was a choice of sliced bread, cereal or a full English breakfast. There didn't appear to be a hot alternative.

We did let the desk staff know that we had a bad stay. The person was either confused as what to answer or dismissive.

This place appears to think it is something special but it really isn't.

There's an old saying "all fur coat and no knickers". Seems to apply here.

Very disappointed. Will not be returning.

We stayed for one night only on this occasion but will not be going back again. Arrived early evening beginning of November to a cold room that had heating on only in the bathroom, but with no hot water. Reported problem to reception & was informed an engineer was working on it, & it would be resolved shortly. Ended up going down for dinner without a shower to find could not eat in the restaurant & only bar meals available. Still no hot water before bed, & the following morning after running the tap for ages still only cold. On ringing reception again was told to leave it with him & hot water was available minutes later. At no time was there a manager available to discuss this with even when booking out after breakfast, we were charged full price & after a conversation with a manager at a later date no form of refund was made. Unacceptable.

Davidbush, Manager at The Villa, Wrea Green, responded to this reviewResponded 5 November 2013

Dear Jan
My apologies for the lack of water when you stayed with us over the weekend. Unbeknown to us United Utilities were working in the area and lowered the pressure of the water for the weekend. They sent letters to most of the village to inform them about this but not ourselves. This consequently resulted in a reduced amount of water coming into our water tank and demand at the hotel exceeding supply. We are currently in talks with United Utilities to find out why we were not informed.
I do hope you will return to the hotel, as offered by the manager, so that we can show you that this is not our normal operating standard.
