“Lovely Country Hotel”
Reviewed 9 April 2013

Stayed here for a wonderful wedding. They have a wedding nearly every day and have a great system, we didn't feel rushed to leave in the morning for the next party but conscious the staff have a lot to do, preparing all the rooms again. The wedding breakfast was very good, substantial food. The waiting on team were efficient aswell.

Lovely hotel, staff very friendly and efficient - especially so at breakfast time; one lady was coordinating cooked to order breakfasts for both breakfast rooms and clearing places away, topping up cold breakfast table etc. There were chambermaids upstairs waiting for the rooms to be emptied so wonder if these girls helped in breakfast rooms residents would be out of the rooms quicker - though the lady was very efficient I felt for her as she was working solo. Breakfast peaks between 8.30-9.30am so the kitchen staff and waitress worked very hard - fabulous breakfast.

We had a room in the loft space with a lovely ensuite bathroom - however no hot water came through the sink tap even though we left it running for 5 minutes - washed with the hot water from the bath instead. Heard the same problem in a couple of other rooms too.

Bed very comfortable, slept well. Lovely decor and theme throughout the hotel.

Stayed for one night on business. Quiet hotel, great building with wonderful grounds. Check in was quick. Room was of an excellent size with good furnishings. Found one rogue hair in the bathroom, but I think this was mostly just bad luck on their part. Will definitely be staying there again in the future.

We got a great bed and breakfast deal by phoning the hotel and they had a downstairs room(the Garden Room)which is great for my friend as she is disabled
A great size room with a large bathroom but only a double bed in it(Inever thought to ask I was so pleased to find the ground floor room !!)
Most hotels now have super king sized beds in a large room which can be twins or be left together so you have a fab sized bed !!
The soup was potato and leak finished with croutons and cream and the pate was ok but the cumberland sauce was very orangey not as expected and not particularly nice
Hot bread buns are always nice to receive with the starter so that went down well
We opted to stay for dinner the first night the meal was average, the steak was cooked to specifications but not the best quality fillet.
The chicken was tasty and the peppercorn sauce was hot with boiled rice
Cauliflower cheese and carrots and small roasted potatoes to accompany the main courses
The sweet menu was very boring I expect to be offered something different to what I can eat at home and it would be nice to see a fresh fruit salad available on the menu
We had ice cream which had no taste to it with hot chocolate sauce !!
Breakfast - when we asked for porridge it was brought but it turned out to be an instant porridge packet which was flavoured with syrup this was not suitable for my friend being diabetic very disappointing as having porridge is a treat when we are away
Otherwise breakfast was fine the norm with nice coffee
After a nice day out at Fleetwood Freeport we looked forward to dinner at the hotel
Very disappointed to find it was the same menu with the same soup
I had soup as I had enjoyed it the night before and my friend tried the stilton mushrooms which were good
She had the lamb cutlets which were overcooked same pots carrots and leaks this time
I only eat chicken so I opted for the same meal again with a portion of onion rings, this portion consisted of three and a half small onion rings two of which had uncooked batter in them which I gave back after being asked if everything was ok
To be fair we were offered a free drink but didn't want one as I had a free bottle included in the deal which I had half of each night and my friend doesn't drink
We didn't have dessert as it was the same lazy menu
Obviously a one night stay should be acceptable as you don't know you are going to have the same menu choices the next night
The staff were all helpful and pleasant
The actual hotel is a beautiful building set in its own grounds with alpacas grazing in the field so cute
Checkout is 10 o'clock which is the earliest I have ever encountered
The hotel appears to do well for funerals, weddings and local society do's
Perhaps I am a harsh critic but I did not feel such a lovely hotel should serve such boring food
Having been for Sunday lunch and a few evening meals over the years and a couple of weddings which were lovely I expected my stay to be much more enjoyable
Overall very disappointing I am sorry to say

Room Tip: The Garden room is spacious, you have to go outside to get into the main hotel but no problem as it i...

We had a two night stay in early December and I would really really recommend it to anyone. The location is beautiful, the staff are fantastically warm and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Our room was lovely with a huge bath to die for and the food was fantastic. Topped off with roaring log fires and Alpacas. What more could you ask for.

We will be highly recommending you to any one we know.
