“Disappointing!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2014

After all the good reviews, maybe I was expecting too much. My room was a superior but disappointing. It was away from the main hotel with drab furnishings in need of updating.
The room was cold even though the radiator was on and faced the road so aware of traffic.
I found the restaurant prices equivalent to London prices. I only wanted the main course and all main courses were £20! I cancelled my booking and went down the road to a pub with a carvery.... lovely and less than half the price. Breakfast was fine but with no fresh fruit just tinned grapefruit and prunes, not exceptional.

Our prunes are simmered in orange juice in our kitchen; they are not out of a tin. As it is January fruit is not at its best availability so we have a fruit bowl with apples & oranges out every morning on the buffet table. Grapefruit segments are out of a tin.

Dinner is served in a restaurant with linen tablecloths and linen serviettes it is not a carvery or a pub. All dishes are cooked to order from fresh ingredients, the majority local. 2 courses is £22.50 and 3 courses is £27, this includes a vat element of 20%.

Your superior room Lostwithiel was £44 per night + vat booked from Laterooms (normally £120) but included full English breakfast. The room has feature walls of stone which are a darker colour, the bedside cabinets are antiques topped with marble, and the rest of the furniture is less than 3 years old. This room can be viewed on our website.

We are offering from our website a dinner bed & breakfast rate of £60 per night inclusive of 3 course dinner from our normal menu which can be veiwed on our website.

Return visit and still very nice hotel with excellent food and service. Only disappointment paid £22 for bottle of wine to find price tag left on bottle showing £8.45 did ask waitress if this would be the price I would pay (no joy there) understand mark up on wine sales but best take price off as this appears excessive. This did not spoil our stay and would recommend this hotel.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay, not sure how a price ticket became attached to the bottle as we buy trade rather than retail outlet, so very sorry.

We booked this hotel to stay the night before a funeral we were attending at Bodmin. We had a very clean and comfortable room and an excellent meal. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We would recommend it.

We stayed for one night and wished we could stay for the week. Gorgeous room (Courtroom), superb dinner with good wine and excellent breakfast. The staff that we met were both very charming and looked after us well. We will definitely stay here again and look forward to it.

The hotel was super we couldn't fault it. We had their two night special deal, bed, breakfast and evening meal including wine. It really is good value. The food is excellent, I had the belly pork the first night, cooked to perfection. My wife had the fillet steak (£5.00 extra) that just melted in her mouth - superb! The following night we both he'd the fillet which again was lovely.

As we had our dog with us we were in the cottage across from the hotel. This was well furnished and very clean. The room was cleaned with fresh towels and the tea boat replenished. Dogs are not allowed on the hotel.

The staff were very polite throughout our stay. Especially in the morning at breakfast as they would quite happily pass the time of day with you. (probably to get out of the washing up).

This place really does make you feel relaxed to explore Cornwall.

Room Tip: Go for the two night deal - excellent value.

Found this place here on trip advisor and booked following other good reviews we were not disappointed with a five night stay over Christmas. Friendly welcoming owners and efficient, friendly staff, good location for exploring the area and excellent food. Alistair the owner prides himself on using local produce and the meals we had were all very good. It was great at breakfast too with a better choice than most places offer and you never felt rushed like some other places. The location was handy for going to Padstow, Port Issac, Wadebridge and the Eden Project and there was plenty of space for parking which can sometimes be difficult. The rooms were clean, warm & comfortable and quiet, we shall certainly stay again in future.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

Needed an overnight stay when travelling from Nottingham to Cornwall last minute.
Read reviews on Trip Advisor and they were spot on although the photos form 2009 need to be removed!!!
Welcoming reception, lovely, comfortable accommodation enabling our dog to be with us as well.
The evening meal was gorgeous (and I'm a fussy eater), the breakfast spot on with huge choice and nothing too much trouble.
£100 for the double room, evening meal and breakfast - would thoroughly recommend.
Just wished we could have stayed longer !!
