Description: The Old Manor restaurant with separate bar is set amongst the Tudor beams of a stunning 500 year old building. Freshly home cooked food, decent wine list and range of well kept cask ales has been the recipe for our success of the last 11 years. In the bar at weekends there is music and dancing. Visit soon for easy parking, friendly staff and all day, every day opening, you won't be disappointed!

“Pub food with a Bistro Touch”
Reviewed 2 February 2013

If you just want a quick snack bar type meals are available.

However, the restaurant itself is a big surprise. One would have expected boring plastic pub food BUT here is the twist the presentation, selection and quality of food matches many Bistro eating places.

It is also a good venue for a pre-show meal if going to the the Wyllyotts Centre opposite.

Prices are average.

“Bar Food”
Reviewed 27 January 2013

I thought the bar food and service was very good - better than the main restaurant - which at times can be quite slow

My wife and I and her parents visited the Old Manor last Saturday. Claire and Holly looked after us. The food and service was excellent. It's nice to see that there are still establishments out there that employ intelligent and engaging staff (Unlike some places that I could mention).

We all had a great time. We asked to move table and were immediately accommodated. The service was faultless. The food was exquisite. The ambience perfect (apart from when a large party sat next to us and were a bit on the loud side, thankfully they got a lot quieter when the food arrived - kudos to the chefs).

We are already planning a repeat visit with close friends - we may, no, will request a table upstairs for that visit!

Well done.

Having eaten here on numerous occasions previously, we booked in for a post pantomine family meal (3 adults plus a 4 year old). Arrived on time, but were left standing around "waiting to be seated" for 5 minutes, before someone appeared. (No apology!). Once seated we were given 3 adult menus and then waited for the childrens' menu to arrive. (It didn't!). When the waitress finally appeared, she announced that they had "run out" of childrens' menus. (How to make a child feel wanted - 1). She did however reel off the choices from the "missing" menu, which proved hard to take in all at once. Drinks (always the first thing provided in any restaurant, so you drink it down and order more) were then sorted for the adults. Sadly, they had "run out" of childrens' drinks (making a child feel wanted - 2) but they could provide diluted orange (!). Previously, children were given crayons and colouring in drawings. As nothing appeared, we asked. You've guessed it - "run out of drawing paper!" Crayons did appear, but accompanied by two pre-booking sheets to be used on the blank side (making a child feel wanted - 3). The adult meal choice was the usual fixed price "Festive Fare" plus a main menu, which offered a pretty average choice - and not at all as good as had previously been on offer.
When the food did finally arrive (talk about slow service) it was very good. However, memo to the waitressing staff: "if you are not happy in your job (and it shows) then get another one!". What was previously (and has been for years) a jewel in the town's restaurant population, is now sadly lacking the vital elements that made it a first choice venue. More sadly is the fact that we can no longer automatically include it in our list of eating places.

“Just ok”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

I chose this pub to have lunch at as it is just off the M25 I was travelling with my husband from our home in the Midlands to take my elderly mother back to her home in Essex. The pub was busy which I always think is a good sign. My meal (pork ribs) was very tasty although it could have been hotter. The portion sizes for my mother & I were fine but for my husband who had the slow baked lasagne, you needed a microscope & he remained hungry at the end of the meal & therefore had to eat again later. The service was ok, we did not have to wait too long but I do like to be asked if the food is ok which would have given me the opportunity to make the above comments. Based on this experience we would try & choose a different place to eat en route next time.
