“Good value for money”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

We just spent one night here at the inn, so we could explore Windsor and the surrounding area. On arriving, the room was freezing as the radiators were switched off and it was also cold in the morning as they didn't come on until 8am (no good if your an early riser). The bed was comfy and we had lovely views over the fields opposite. There was no welcome pack and we had to ask later in the bar what time breakfast was as no one had told us on arrival. Also there was no milk for coffee, but the lovely waitress gave us a jug later in the bar.
Moaning over over, we had a delicious meal in the restaurant and the service was brilliant. Bar was lovely and warm and we enjoyed a drink in there before dinner. Shower was lovely and hot once I finally got the temperature working properly and our room was very clean.
Breakfast was huge and delicious, although the chef could work on his people skills a little.
We go away regularly and with just a few little tweaks this could go from being an average place to stay to a fab place. However, the price was fantastic considering we stayed in central London a couple of weeks ago and spent the same money on just a room as we did for our bed, dinner, breakfast and 3 rounds of drinks in the Union Inn.

WARNING. My wife and I stayed at the Union Inn between 27 and 29 December 2013. Whilst we were having a meal there, our room was ransacked. The thief took over £365 worth of our stuff. We had locked our room but the thief had entered the Inn via the open door of the, unattended, Reception Area, took duplicate keys, which were on display, then climbed the stairs, which could not be observed from the bar/restaurant area. The Landlord said he would pay for the items stolen either through his insurance company or personally. To date (11 February 2014) no money has been received. This is after numerous telephone calls and letters and promises of cheques being in the post. The Landlord has broken his contract with us, he has failed to provide a duty of care to his patrons. He is responsible, in law, for the return of our possessions or a compensatory payment. We will be pursuing this in the courts, if necessary.
Room 10 was adequate in size. The carpet had been cleaned but was grubby. The en suite comprised of a relatively new bath (with overhead shower) sink and toilet. The tiled floor had grouting missing and did not give the appearance of being clean. (It was.) The water for the shower and bath was good and forceful but it was merely a dribble in the sink. The room was noisy from fans working all night. The food was good.
I would not recommend anyone staying at the Union Inn – you could be robbed.

Room Tip: Room 10 was noisy from fans working all night.

Lovely restaurant - went with a group of about 20 so was worried service would be erratic. No problems though - all served very swiftly... lovely staff and the food was absolutely delicious.. large portions, amazing home made chips, huge onion rings... great atmosphere in village pub during pre- and post-dinner drinks. Cannot fault the evening!

I will start my review with the positive by saying that the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, and the shower was powerful. But that's where the positive stops. We arrived only to be told that the hotel was actually supposed to be closed that evening because they were having a party and that there would be no breakfast supplied (even though we had paid for it). I asked the manager for a refund to cover the breakfast we had paid for and he said 'he would sort something out', this was the last we heard from him. On departure we could find not one member of staff to check us out and we actually couldn't get out of the hotel, we eventually found a fire exit and left by that, this we felt was a safety hazard. We felt that the staff 'could not be bothered with us', I have never received customer service from any other hotel that I have stayed in like this. Would not recommend this hotel.

We visited the Union Inn for a short break between Christmas and new Year with some friends to relax and get away from the stresses of the festive season. The welcome was friendly from the moment we walked through the door from both staff and regulars. The rooms were modern, clean and well decorated with plenty of room. We eat in the restaurant both nights and had really good food at reasonable prices. The owner was extremely helpful and assisted us in planning our day out when we chose to walk to Windsor. Would definitely go there again

Room Tip: Rooms 11 and 12 we found very good

I booked a double room in September as a pre-Christmas treat, it was to be for Saturday 30th November. This was confirmed the following day on the phone, but never in writing! With 3 days to go we phoned this morning (as we always do) to check the arrival time only to find that there was "no room at the inn" and that they had supposedly left us a message on our answer phone .... we don't have an answer phone!

I have never given a poor review before ......but, so disappointed we were looking forward to our weekend break. However, looking at the last few reviews on Tripadvisor maybe we have had a lucky escape? The manager is never available to take your calls!
