“Legoland Base”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

As a family of 4 we stayed here with an 8 year old and 6 year old. The rooms were large and clean. The bathroom did not have a shower , was a disabled room near the door and after a long day at Legoland asking for another room was not what we wanted to do, once in it. It was next to the door so it was noisy at night and morning. We looked around all the local eating pubs and they were very busy so decided to eat in the bar area at the hotel. It was expensive and nothing special, disappointing. However any staff we came into contact with were polite and professional. The only positive thing about this place was the breakfast. Buffet style, plenty of food, good variety, hot food and a bear walking around saying hello to the kids which they really enjoyed.

Room Tip: Not next to an outside door

Visited with family on LEGOLAND package. Rooms clean and modern but a little small. My wife was too hot because staff had doubled up a 10 tog Duvet for the single bed. Dinner was OK but service slow. My wife was brought the wrong dish and they forgot to put onion rings on my dish as promised! Wines expensive but perhaps to be expected. Hotel Bar was functional with large TV on, not what I expected. Swimming pool was good and enjoyed by grandchildren, and the connected rooms were great for them and their parents.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay here whilst we went to Legoland. Hotel situated in lovely grounds, my children loved playing hide and seek in the vast gardens.
Rooms very spacious for 4 people to share.
Little touches like the children's activity packs on check in and the milk and cookies before bed.
Very clean and friendly staff.
Pool was very good too to wind down after walking around Legoland.
Lovely hotel if you want to stay off site from Legoland.

My daughter and I visited for one night stay whilst visiting Windsor Castle. We received a warm and helpful welcome at reception. The room was very nice , comfortable and plenty of room. Bathroom was good and everything very clean. The corridors are a little confusing but once we got our bearings we were fine. Used the indoor pool which was ok but a lack of loungers and didn't look like the picture. The restaurant was very nice and we chose the buffet dinner for our evening meal. All the staff were very helpful, and when we rang for more tea bags and milk the gentleman was at the door in about 10 minutes (with a bag full). The grounds are really nice and would consider staying again if I visit that area again.

Room Tip: perhaps check the time when visiting the pool, if you want to avoid childrens splash time.

Don't be fooled by the glossy website. Although the old building looks lovely and probably great for functions most rooms are in a college like building situated at the back. I was disappointed driving up to the hotel how much it looked like a university halls of residence and my experience didn't improve much though my stay. The rooms are tired and bathrooms require renovation. The bar was shabby and expensive serving very poor food. There are better country estate hotels than this and better value for money. Oh and the queues at check in were larger than some iv experienced in Vegas.

Room Tip: I imagine the rooms in the function part of the hotel the old boys rooms are nice.

We booked this as we were going on a riverboat trip from Runnymede boathouse and wanted to stay somewhere that was walking distance to this. We were slightly worried about the poor reviews but very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The grounds are beautiful, staff really helpful, reception, corridors, car parks and our room immaculate. We had a problem with our card keys not working when we got to our room (430) but spotted a nearby cleaner, she let us in with her master key and then went to reception for us and returned 5 mins later with a pair of working keys.
We had a beautiful top floor room with nice view of grass quadrangle, nice bed, plenty of pillows, tea and coffee, TV worked fine, shower had good pressure, nice toiletries, lovely big fluffy towels, nothing to complain about. The only thing missing was a toilet brush, but I'm sure if I had spotted that earlier I could have got one from reception.
We didn't use the bar or restaurant so cannot comment on them. There were plenty of children, probably as they are close to Legoland and have an outside playarea and an inside swimming pool, but the children were not a problem to us.
There was noise from Heathrow with the window open, but you get that anywhere close to any airport.

Room Tip: As it's a huge hotel, be prepared to walk a little.
