After experiencing great food and service when visiting last year, I decided this would be a great venue for my mother's 70th birthday celebration. The restaurant kindly sent me menu choices a week before our visit and adapted the menu for us. Although we were the only guests dining (it was a Monday evening), this was not a problem as it made for a lovely relaxed evening. On our arrival we were given complimentary fresh breads followed by a two course meal (main & dessert), no one could fault the presentation and quality of the food. The attentive service and humour by Stephen at the Marine added to the enjoyment of the evening. Following the terrible and devastating valentine storm only the main upstairs restaurant is open, however they are working hard to open the downstairs shortly. The building is wonderful, a little hidden from the main village but with their own parking and stunning views over the Isle of Wight Needles it is well worth a visit. The art deco design and décor is very classy and unique too. If you haven't yet been, I would definitely recommend a visit.

Whilst in Milford made sure we visited this venue as we had read much about it here and on the internet, to be honest we were very disappointed.
The waiting staff were very young and inexperienced, the older waiter was miserable the whole of our visit. we had drinks, and afternoon tea with scones, but only because no crisps or nuts etc are available to buy, the food had stopped and we were hungry.
Sorry, but the place is still like a show house, there is no soul, the waiters probably won't be there next year so they have no care or thought to customers, and overall not a good experience.

We had afternoon tea at the marine which obviously had been battered by the storms earlier in the year.
The view of the needles is perfect as is the location but the older waiter who served us just didn't have any personality he was so bad we won't return here.
The quality of the tea and scones was excellent but the staff need a reality check especially when building the business back up, the restaurant had 6 people in on a Sunday afternoon it should be full up with the investment made and the location.
It needs to have atmosphere quickly !!

The Marine restaurant was devasted by the storms at the beginning of the year and on our lunchtime visit this week was only open upstairs. The restaurant was less than half full when we arrived at about 1215 but service was incredibly slow - we sat on the terrace and no-one came to offer menus or take drink orders. We had to go chasing the staff. We eventually ordered and got a drink and then waited over half an hour for our very simple food order to arrive. Unforunately they supplied something that we had not ordered: they agreed that they had made a mistake but said we could not have what we had ordered off the menu they had up
because that was off yesterday's menu! We shared the one portion of mussels which they had correctly delivered! Sadly the mussels were tough, lots of shells still closed, and the mariniere sauce was dull and insipid.
Maybe they haven't got themselves properly organised since reopening but ours was a poor experience by any standards

Against all the odds after the devastating storm damage of St Valentines night, The Marine restuarant re-opened as 'Valentines'. Food and sevice as good if better than before, the fish and sea food cooked to perfection the friendly and attentive staff made this our No1 restuarant of choice in the area. Do yourself a favour and visit Valentines at The Marine.
