Our first visit since the refurbishment. Nothing but praise for the renovation and particularly the toilets. This fine old building once the home of Siemens of electrical fame and William Morris of Morris Motors has been sympathetically refurbished maintaining much of the character and making good use of the location with its view of the Isle of Wight. Our service was good probably due to the fact that we had the French waiter who was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the food was uninspiring pub grub. Hall and Woodhouse should bear in mind the standard of food that can be obtained in several other restaurants in Milford which have a very good name for the standard of their cuisine. A fine ambience but please do something about the menu which is reasonably priced but very average,

As we parked in the car park we were greeted by shouting from the open kitchen window and it pretty much went down hill from there. Lovely setting however not enough staff and the few they did have were rude and un helpful, food was average, empty plates on our table for 10mins before I had to ask for them to be cleared, and the waitress just put our desserts in the middle of the table for us to sort,

What a waste! This Hall and Woodhouse restaurant with rooms in this fabulous location has been extensively renovated. Sadly the usual Hall and Woodhouse standards have not yet infiltrated. For some reason there was loud music in the restaurant. I asked why this was and received the reply that youngsters liked it. The youngest person there was about 50. The restaurant was about half full. There were no specials available - just the usual Hall and Woodhouse menu. I had the chicken cutlet which was very dry and rather burnt. I asked for mayo to make it edible which arrived after asking 2 more times by when the food was cold. The promised free bottle of beer for Father's Day did not come with the bill as promised. I paid the bill at the bar so that I could actually obtain the free beer before paying.
No one came to serve us drinks in the lounge area so I had to go to the bar.
The new décor has a very large amount of sporting memorabilia ( aka rubbish) with no obvious theme. It makes it all look very cluttered.
Sadly a very disappointing visit.
There is wonderful patio area with fabulous vies of Christchurch Bay but there is a handwritten sign saying there is no service outside!

This is the first visit since the refurbishment. Food was general good but could have been warmer. Service however was very poor. A meal for 2 even on the lunch menu can cost in excess of £50. I have never been a fan of queuing at a bar to order food and then have to queue again to pay. This is an example of the system at its worse. On a hot sunny day 2 bar staff who were serving drinks, taking food orders, waiting on tables and taking payments. Net result 5 minutes in a queue to order and 7 to pay. Would probably have spent more if we could have actually ordered a desert.

Not good enough for those sort of prices.

A disappointing Hall & Woodhouse experience. Unlike The Angel at Longham, this establishment lacks quality staff. Whether this is due to a new recruitment drive, only time and training from the management will tell.
Improvement needed.
