“Very friendly B and B”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

Beautiful B and B run by a very friendly lady, Cathy, who went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. My husband and I stayed one night in order to attend a wedding nearby - we wish we could have stayed longer. The room was tastefully decorated (artworks adorn all the walls), spacious and extremely clean. The breakfast was superb - lots of fruits, homemade jams, yoghurt together with a full cooked feast. The Vegetarian choice was also excellent. I highly recommended this B and B!

What a gem - Mid Wales is beautiful, and to have found this fabulous B&B makes staying for more than just the scenery possible.
The Maesmawr is an art gallery as well as a really special place to stay - and when I say gallery I mean a gallery proper with a high standard of real art - not just a building with pictures! Its a lovely old building - fascinating in itself, but with grounds that you are free to explore with a big garden full of sculptures.
Importantly, rooms are immaculately clean, the beds comfortable and the breakfast is perfect. Cathy - the host - is kind, warm and hospitable without being in your face! I can't recommend it highly enough and I truly cannot understand the negative review? It is as if they stayed at a different place. There is a Maesmawr Hotel up the road - perhaps they got confused??

We recently stayed a night as this unique B&B and were totally blown away! Having booked last minute we hadn't had a chance to check out reviews or research the area beforehand so were not really sure what to expect. The house is located on the main road through to the coast so very handy for an overnight stop and very easy to find. The outdoor gallery hits you as soon as you enter onto the property and is in such contrast to the actual building it looks amazing! We aren't big art lovers/ or rather just very uneducated in this area but we spent a long time going around the gardens and the house admiring and appreciating the outstanding work by local artisits (and a few not so local!) Cathy was such a lovely host and nothing was too much trouble for her and she made us so welcome. Fresh flowers in our room and a loaded tray of goodies too. As we had no expectations before arriving we didnt know what think ... apart from the fact we have never before stayed anywhere that compares to it ..a true find in the welsh countryside that we just cant praise enough. Highly recommend a stay here or just pop in to view the gallery if you are heading that way. P.S you MUST try the homemade scones and banana cake - gorgeous!!!

Room Tip: If available the blue coloured room is just amazing - views of the countryside (and main road but th...

By a Welsh country mile the best B&B that I have been to in years. Beautiful building & location, interesting owners, engaging, personable... etc... etc... The breakfast was fanstastic- made with home grown or local ingredients, jams, bread, cereals & stewed fruit. Rooms were super clean with sumptuous bedding. Bathroom was bigger than my bedroom at home! I'll be definitely going back & look forward to viewing more of the vast collection of art & sculpture that adorns every wall in the house. Quibbles? Cash or cheque only, which in reality means cash only for 99% of people. No cashpoint locally. You can get cash from the local shop but have to spend a fiver to get it, which in my case meant the hardship of eating some award winning Welsh cakes. Oh, and no brown sauce! ;-)

Contrary to the other review posted here we found the accommodation (a newly renovated and very tasteful self contained flat that opens onto a rose garden) to be immaculate, even by my own admittedly high standards. The location is beautiful, a old georgian manor house, that has been turned into a gallery and sculpture garden. The evening meal was absolutely delicious, accompanied by very warm and generous company. Nothing was too much trouble for cathy, the price of the stay was very reasonable and we would very highly recommend a stay there to anyone. If there had to be a downside it would perhaps be that the peacocks in the grounds make a rather uglier sound than one might think when looking at their beautiful plumage.

It's really difficult to review this place fairly - it was a bit of a madcap rollercoaster with some very good bits and some very bad.
Cathy kindly allowed us to check in early - I was dissappointed at the proximity to the busy road. Twin room very nice on first arriving - good-sized, well-furnished with sitting area and reasonable shower room. Sadly, as I pulled back the bed sheets to have an afternoon rest, I discovered a lot of hairs - both animal and human. Sheets quite crumpled and wondered if bedding had been washed and changed from previous guests. Was in a dilemma over what to do and thought it unlikely that alternative bedding would be available, so I stripped the beds and shook them out as best I could to avoid further awkwardness.
We had opted for an evening meal and were delighted by a generous, delicious, home-cooked roast chicken dinner with pudding and a glass of wine for a very reasonable amount - though it was rather later than promised and all a bit hectic as Cathy was also serving a group of other house guests at the same time. We had dinner at the table in the little self-catering kitchen below the room.
Breakfast was again delicious, with very high-quality ingredients, and served to suit us in the little kitchen - though served by a rather stressed out host (having windows fitted, personal troubles...) Felt that guests should be kept happily unaware of this sort of thing.
On checking out, Cathy had forgotten that she had agreed to a walkers' discount and rather begrudgingly agreed.
Our host Cathy is a very interesting, arty and generous person who is rather overwhelmed by the challenges of what she is trying to achieve - Arts Centre, Cafe, B&B, evening meals - a lot of work! We wish you every success for the future.
