I was rather disappointed to say the least. The welcome was great, yes, but the food I thought was rather under par. Pretty basic, and just ok. The restaurant seemed pretty grubby too. Certainly needs an almighty uplift.
I will think twice about another visit for sure.

Called in here on Sunday on our way home from Corris. The place was extremely cold and it was empty apart from 4 other diners. The 4 of us chose our table and 3 decided to go for the carvery at £9.50. I got a thin slither of beef and small piece of pork. The choice of veg was limited and it didn't look its best, obviously it had been stood around a while. the Yorkshire puddings were like biscuits! We decided for another £2.00 to go for a pudding which were adequate apart from my jam roly poly was cold. This place could be a little gem but it looks tired and the food is not good enough to be charging those prices especially when you can get a carvery for less than this. It felt like the commitment for giving the customer quality and good value for money was not important. The staff were the redeeming factor, friendly and helpful albeit the dress code wasn't the best. The drinks were a little pricey so the bill came in at nearly £32.00. Recommendations, put the heating on, and don't scrimp on quality, today's customers are too savvy. I'm sorry but we'll be driving straight passed next time.

Popped in on our way home. It was a little quiet, but thought nothing of it. ordered Scallops, Beef stroganoff. Lasagna and scampi for the kids. The food came out promptly and the staff were friendly thats where the positives end unfortunately. The Scallops came with a sweet and sour source that tasted like it was from a jar apart from the scallops being off, which i had to send back. The Stroganoff, well wasn't... It was tomato sauce with beef, mushroom on rice!!!
The lasagna was dry and hadn't followed any traditional lasagna recipe. THe Scampi was ok but pre bought frozen scampi so you can't go to wrong... And the chips were not cooked properly and rather tasteless.
And after all this decided to pay the bill which was rather expensive, for the money you are paying (£12.00 average per meal) you would expect very good home cooked food.
I know this is a rather scathing review, but i was shocked to see how down hill The Plough had gone in recent years. I will never go there again...
My advice scrap the menu start again keep it simple and do it well.

Popped in here again on the way to Ruthin this weekend. The lunchtime specials menu is no more, and the standard menu is a bit pricey for pub grub. We had a starter and a pannino, which were fine. Service was good and we sat by the fire again.

called in there on a Saturday afternoon, very cold inside, only another four customers there when we arrived and they were huddled around a log burning fire at the far end of the room, radiators turned right down. The meal came fairly prompt, i had stake pie, wife had chicken tikka, our Friends had steak & chips and a curry. we then noticed that the meat chunks were large diced and had no flavor, it was later explained to us by the waiter as they were cut off a large cold half used joint, re-heated and added to the sauce or gravy in order to save money, my wife's Chicken was stringy, again pulled cold off a left over chicken and our friend steak was too fatty and tough to eat. after a complaint my friends wife had her money back and we were given a free round of drinks. but the four customers before us and a family that came in after us all complained about the food to the waiter. Its a shame as we come that way most weekends and would have been repeat customers. it was also a shame that the chef didn't come out to speak to us when we asked the waiter, as we wouldn't have asked for a refund, i wouldn't be writing this now, and we may have gone back if the food would have improved in the future...
