“Lovely restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014 via mobile

I stayed here alone whilst my husband and son were on a Bear Grylls survival weekend locally. The room was very warm with little ventilation and a view of a flat roof. The bathroom and particularly the hair dryer were in desperate need of an update. However the room was clean and comfortable. I ate in the restaurant, which was lovely. The food was delicious and staff were very attententive. The breakfast was also delicious and once again the staff were polite and helpful.

As previous reviews have stated, the hotel is in the midst of renovations. Our room was very comfortable and well equipped, but definitely a bit out dated. Staff were helpful. Dinner was excellent. Staff levels in the restaurant appeared low, and really the service was disappointing - not matching the quality of the food. Breakfast too was good - except for Nescafe coffee in a sachet. In a Country Hotel? Shades of Fawlty Towers!

Visited when renovations inside the hotel were still under way. It will be better when finished. But if you don't like loud music through an extensive sound system in the refurbished dining area be warned you may need ear defenders. Why do hotels do it especially when the same recording is played night after night! Our view of the garden was marred by bits of the kitchen, that had been removed as part of the renovations, left lying around. It's not too hard to get such things removed. Breakfast was OK but only a small part of the advertised items were available, You may be put off by the sign at the bottom of the lane - no one seemed to care that it was a very poor advert for the hotel. Now the gardens - obviously whilst the renovations inside the hotel had been going on these had been left although the front of the hotel had a lovely display. Hopefully they will now be in pristine condition.
The staff were very good and deserve better management.

Room Tip: Choose a renovated room

It is in a nice looking old building set back about 500m from the road and with well kept grounds. There is nothing much else around the immediate area so evening meals need to be taken in the hotel or taking a bus or car ride. Similarly with the walking. Although it is indeed in the middle of some wonderful walking country, there is nothing straight from the hotel. Because we had a voucher (which included afternoon tea) the value was very good but we would not have wanted to pay full price. Ou room smelt dusty which, with a very warm night, meant that we did not sleep too well.

Room Tip: Wifi did not work in room 6.

Went to Ty Newydd for a Sunday Lunch recently, and i have to say it was probably the best i have ever had! The new renovations make the place look stylish and contemporary, which seems worlds apart from the old decor.

This hotel is a bit of a mixture. We stayed in one of the front facing rooms, which are large with a spacious bathroom and great shower. Clean and well looked after, bed very comfortable. There was a wedding while we stayed, but it was to the rear and caused us no problems. The staff were on the whole helpful and friendly in an efficient sort of way. The restaurant is very nicely done and the food very good in the evenings. There was a certain lack of attention of detail, we arrived late, as planned, were in the restaurant before it closed, but they appeared distracted, no promised bread, reminded about water and one person had to search for cutlery, messages not passed on by reception.
watery scrambled eggs, instant coffee and tinned fruit for breakfast seems very 1960's and not worthy of a four star hotel. I would like to give it a four, but somehow it doesnt quite make it

Room Tip: get one of the rooms on the front.

Stayed with a living social deal which included either a meal from the set menu, or money toward a meal from the a la carte menu. We opted for the a la carte option and were not disappointed.
The food was lovely, the service was excellent, all in all a very enjoyable evening.
The restaurant has undergone a major face lift and is so much better for that.
