“Totally worth it!”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

I 'm talking about the restaurant.

Service: impeccable.
No waiting time. Courteous and warm waiters.

Quality food: quite delicious. Starters and main courses of fish are simply outstanding.

Price: incredibly cheap. 20€ - 30€ per person if you choose to stand up from the table satisfied.

PS: there's a table in the external dining area that I love to sit the most. It's the number 110. Perfect for a couple looking for reservation and romanticism. :P

I tried several restaurants in the province and I have to admit that La Falena remains a vivid yet pleasant memoir I had during my stay in this wonderful land.

This reviews relates to the restaurant service. I've been told the pizzeria is worth as well.

Enjoy!!! :))

“Disaster, commercial (not what you are looking for in Sicily)”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

We went to La Falena on Saturday 24th and booked for 930. We were allowed in at about 1010 as there was a mix up with the table. It actually turned out that the table was ready all along and there was lack of communication between the staff and the entertainer who stands at the entrance and calms all the angry people down. DO NOT BE FOOLED - just because there are impressive queues outside it does not mean you are in for a treat.

We sat down and since we had quite a long walk we wanted to order some water (two pregnant women and a one year old child were with us). After being ignored for some 15 minutes we asked the waiter to get us some water. He said I am sorry but a waiter will be assigned to you in due time. After another 15 minutes (we were outside, it is hot and sticky) a waiter turned up, took our order for drinks, firsts and seconds and vanished. After waiting for a further 15 minutes, we spoke to the entertainer at the door who apologised and convinced us not to leave by assigning another waiter to our table.

The food - fish starters (house speciality) were an insult to sicily. Meat was good. Zuppa di pesce and cozze was average. Pasta was also average.

I will not go into the fact that they forgot half our order, got mains before starters and literally looked like it was everyone first day at work.

Bottom line - it is a big establishment and doesn't come close to a proper dining experience in Sicily. We have deleted the memory from our holiday.

“A foreign tourist among locals”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

Though located at the end of Restaurant Row, the extra walk from the City center and the beach is worth the effort. At 8:00 pm on the first Saturday of August, La Falena has a queue at the Maitr'D desk, which confirms its popularity with the locals and the local tourists. Our very limited Italian language skills were enough to let the Maitr'D know that we did not have a reservation, that we were a group of five, and that we would like to have dinner. "Pizzeria or Ristorante?" Correct answer: "Ristorante". In a perfect English, we were told to wait for five minutes, exactly after which we were seated at a lovely table as promised.

Without us even asking for help, an English speaking waiter accompanied our regular only-Italian-speaking waiter, to take our orders. This is a real treat in English-is-seldom-spoken Sicily.

By the time we were done, around midnight, there was still a queue at the door.

Now, the food: various seafood pasta, fish soup; all were delicious. But the seafood risotto is a must. The Sicilian White Wine (recommended by our waiter) was full bodied, dark gold (almost like a Passito) in color, boasted strong aromas, fruit, flowers and citrus.

The service: in spite of the huge size of the restaurant, service was prompt, very courteous, accommodating (linguistically). It is also nice to dine at a table with "white" table cloth, sitting on non-plastic chairs - a change from the casual (but still lovely) Sicilian restaurant scene.

The bill: very reasonable given the fact that this is a real, large restaurant and not a trattoria.

Commendable: the warm welcome; the pleasant environment, the fact that five guests without reservations on a busy Saturday eve were quickly accommodated; the fact that language barriers were quickly overcome; delicious food; very reasonable check. Oh, did I mention the excellent recommendation for wine?

Worth the extra walk. On your walk back, you will have an opportunity to digest the plenty food, and make some room for the ice cream once you arrive at the City center.

“seafood”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

This is a large restaurant frequented by the locals,It is primarily seafood which is so fresh that when they bring it on a platter to show you the choices some of it is still alive,My wife and myself chose to share a lobster, and asked to have as a linguini ,it was sensational. So much so we returned 3 days later for a repeat performance, ask the waiter(the only one who speaks english) for his wine recomendation,we did the wine was great, and inexpensive compared to others on the wine list. Enjoy!

“A nice Dinner !”
Reviewed 1 May 2013 via mobile

We were a group of 5 people on the way back to Syracuse after a beautiful full day in the near hills and finally down to the Riviera. We casually found the restaurant, and it was time to dinner. Any meal is "Outstanding" but i suggest if you get there, a selection among the fishes of the day or the superb "Pasta con le Sarde". Enjoy !
