“Good for the area”
Reviewed 10 June 2013

My Husband and i stayed here for a wedding. We were welcomed by a friendly staff and they had us checked in right away. Our room was okay. The bathroom was small, not a lot of counter space and the beds were a bit on the stiff side.

We both had a lot of fun at the casino (neither of us won). The casino has a lot of different types of slots, black jack, roulette and craps. The craps and roulette tables don't open until 6. The dealers were friendly and we always had a waitress serving drinks.

We went to two of the restaurants there. The restaurant 'The Flames' which claims to be award winning was terrible. I had the steak sandwich, which was a cooked piece of steak on a bun with uncooked onions. My husband had the chicken wings. Both of us did not like the food. The other restaurant was 'The Spring.' We both had the breakfast buffet. The buffet was really good. They had a chef making omelettes. different types of cereals, fresh fruit and other common breakfast dishes. They even had real scrambled eggs!

Over all our stay was good. We would go back.

Recently spent the night at the resort. We were using it as a starting point for a weekend away. We arrived very late and exhausted. The desk clerk was very friendly and so was all of the rest of the staff. We had reason to interact with many of them and they were all just super friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and quiet. Not fancy, but clean and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Room Tip: Ask for a king room if they have one. Very nice size and was very comfortable. Also if you get the...

Stayed one night March, 2013. Was informed that the hotel was quite full, we got one of the last available rooms, a handicapped/king. The room was sparsely furnished and decorated. A small table and two dining chairs, no other seating. No refrigerator or microwave (I believe some other rooms do have these, you should check when making a reservation). There was no balcony or patio, the window did open however). The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels, one small bottle of conditioning shampoo and a bottle of body lotion. Hair dryer, also iron/board and coffee maker are included. Bed was nice with comfortable linens. The tv was a 27" tube type with poor reception, no movie channels. The casino is fairly small but nice, there is also a bar/restaurant at one open end of the casino floor. We ate dinner at the buffet restaurant. There was a steak carving station and lasagna, fried chicken, fish, salad bar, and it was a pretty decent dinner. Not much of a shop at the hotel, but there is a gas station across the street where you can get deli sandwiches, tobacco, stuff to drink, etc. The staff at the hotel seem friendly but are rather disinterested in any concerns you might have. Our disappointment with out stay occurred later in the day when nothing seemed to go right. We drove 2h50m to enjoy their amenities of which there were none. A child had 'contaminated' the pool earlier in the day so they closed it down and while I know this was not their fault, we were unhappy nonetheless as this was one of the big reasons we came. Went back to our room with our cocktails to watch tv and/or FaceTime with friends at home but the tv had a really poor picture and wi fi was so bogged down that I wasn't able to get on-line so the rest of the evening was frustratingly boring (had already blown through our gambling budget for the day). Went to the front desk about the wi fi and they just shrugged their shoulders. The following morning I did complain to the desk supervisor and she gave me a $30 credit on my room bill. This was my fourth stay at the hotel but I doubt we will return, there are several other casino/hotels in this state that provide a much nicer experience.

I went here with my family on our way up to MI. First of all, they had our reservation messed up. Then, once that was fixed we went to the room... We had to use the sleeper sofa so we attempted to get that ready for the night. The mattress was so terrible you could have just slept on cardboard of the floor (I'm an avid tent camp and sleeping on hard surfaces usually doesn't bother me, that's just how terrible it was.) we called room service to ask for a new room with a better bed or a free roll away. They proceeded to tell us that we should all sleep in the two double beds! Umm who tells guests where and how to sleep?!?! SERIOUsLY! I was irate! So, we went to the pool. The hot tub was making some type of weird noise as if the jets were about to break too. So we then decided to go to dinner (in the hotel) we had to wait over 10 mins to be seated and then we decided to do the buffet terrible choice. The food was absolutely cold and the veggies looked like they were from the previous day. The only good thing was the chicken. I would not recommend this place at all. It also seems like most of the guests here are in the 65+ age range.

Room Tip: Keep driving or bring a tent/ RV

Let me start off by saying we have not stayed in the Northern Lights Hotel; however, the dinner and casino are a great hidden gem. When we visit the cabin in nearby Lakewood, I always opt for an evening of penny slots at the Potawatomi Bingo Northern Lights Casino. The casino is smoke friendly to those who wish to partake, for non-smokers such as my wife and I it's never been horrible compared to other WI casinos. If you're in Oconto County or this part of Wisconsin, one of the best meals to be found is in the Northern Lights Casino.

You will not find an endless buffet, 101 specialty drinks or the meal to end all meals. What you will find is a dinner at a fair price, generous portions and great service. $35 for two adults, with one dinner drink and tip included is a great deal and well worth the visit to Northern Lights Casino. I recently tried the pecan chicken salad, and have not found another salad like it anywhere. The salad was fresh, moist chicken breast and not a disappointment! We generally grab soup and sandwiches from the casino as their open late, but I will be back again for a great meal.

Easy access, no hidden roads make this an easy destination to find in northern Wisconsin.

Wow! A Casino-Hotel that give you your moneys worth...We've been going to Carter every February, for about 6 years and it started to slip in all of the title catagories....Very "Unfriendly" Pit Bosses. Very tight machines. A resturant that you'd avoid at all cost. Rooms that Mary and Joseph would have turned down. The only reward was getting to leave! The only reason we went this year was because my brother lives up there. And we always go to visit.

Needless to say: Its made a DRAMATIC come back in our book. Clean, Inviting, Appetizing and above all Friendly. Not to mention that this is the first time we won something.

So if ya find yourself goin' Northwest out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, give Carter a try, ya might win something along the way

Room Tip: They're all god but, the rooms with a Whirlpool are great!

The room was great but the staff leaves a lot to be desired. Most were "just doing their jobs". Asked for help with using the player's club card and the "gentleman" we asked for help, acted like it was a big imposition. I guess holding up the rope fence he was leaning against was more important. Check in clerk was not one bit helpful. Check out clerk was very pleasant. Maybe she got more sleep.
