“Great Food”
Reviewed 10 March 2014 via mobile

I recently stayed here with my partner, 2 nights bed & breakfast. We ate at the Derby Arms both evenings and I must say the food was excellent, the portions were good, the food was very well prepared, well presented and very satisfying. The drink was also excellent, a nice selection of cask ales which all tasted great so they are obviously well cared for. One of the biggest positives is for the staff, each and every staff member we met could not do enough for us, they were attentive and pleasant and they deserve a huge thumbs up.
The room itself was clean and ample for our stay.
The only down side to the stay was the noise from the pub and banging doors ...... but that is being picky as it is a pub after all!

One of our favourite places for a pub lunch after a walk in the Witherslack area. The midweek two courses for £10 deal is excellent. Not huge portions but nicely presented. Fish and chips is usually the choice, perfectly cooked and not overwhelmed by batter. Yummy choice of desserts.

The pub has a very nice ambience with stripped wood floors, comfy furniture, newspapers to read and a welcoming open fire. A good selection of real ales. Very friendly and efficient service.

Only downside on a mid week day in February was that the pub was not very busy and lacked atmosphere.

We ate here on 2/2/14. Called in for an impromptu lunch and so pleased we did. Great food, great service and excellent value for money. The waitress was very welcoming and helpful. When my wife commented on how good the fig chutney was she brought another most welcome helping. Will definitely return and would recommend it to our friends.

Have enjoyed two previous meals here, was surprised by three out of four meals so poor. Stale chips, greasy fish, brown off lettuce, raw potatoes . When showing the waitress the bad lettuce no apology and she was rude in her response! Worst restaurant experience in a long time. I will ensure i let all my clients know and will not return.

A popular, good quality pub with rooms. Stylish bedrooms and spacious bathroom. We stayed in Room 7, which has a lovely roll top bath (though no no stand up shower, which meant my other half soaked the place). We ate twice in the restaurant and the head waitress couldn't do enough for us. Staff were very friendly .Food was decent gastro pub type fare but unremarkable. Location wise, it's quite far south for a full lake district experience and is in a slightly odd location on the side of the road, quite close to a busy road, though this didn't disturb our sleep at all. There was a band one of the nights we stayed, so worth eating early if so. It didn't bother us, but maybe not great if you have small kids. Overall a good experience and good value.

we arrived after the restaurant closed, but was offered a meal. We had already eaten but a lovely thought. The room was a pleasant surprise with an open bathroom (roll top bath) to the bedroom area. Not everyone's cup of tea, but we're were fine. Good size television and nice tea/coffee tray in the room. Breakfast was continental and cooked. Very tasty. Parking was no problem considering we got there late. Close to motorway and Lakes. We were very pleased with the location. Easy to find in the dark too.
Would we go again? Yes
