Description: The Derby Arms joined the Ainscoughs Pub team in December 2008 after extensive restoration. Serving good food, beer and wine in a traditional environment with log fires and period furniture just like the rest of the pubs in the group. We have now been recommended in the Michelin Pub Guide for 2014 and have won the 'Pub of the Season' award, CAMRA. We have a games room with a pool table and dart board which is intended to form the focus of the village. The Derby Arms was purchased from Punch Taverns by the Witherslack Community Land Trust and the Ainscough Family took over the lease to preserve it as part of Witherslack life. Part of the pub was converted into the village shop, run by the community with community shareholders.

“Very Dog Friendly”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

My partner and I used this pub in early July on the recommendation of Jenny and Stuart from Beech Hill House B&B as we were travelling with our two small dogs. We did not expect the pub to let us take the dogs inside but to our surprise we were allowed to take the dogs into the bar area. The pub has a lovely feel and is used by the locals and tourists alike. Staff are very friendly and the food excellent. The pub feels abit like going back in time and is a little gem. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

“Lovely find, food, atmosphere! ”
Reviewed 12 July 2014 via mobile

We found this pub by accident of the main road! Glad we did, great place. Food was lovely. I had the veggie bubble and squeak, it was delicious and other meals were great. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The desserts were fab.... I would recommend to anyone on the area.

“Welcoming with good food”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

Appears to be well used by the locals which is always a good sign. Do not be fooled by the Trip Advisor map as it is few miles SW of that location, a couple of 100 yards off the A590 and up the road from Beech Hill House B&B, near Witherslack (shown on Google Maps). I am glad we took the trouble to find its true location as the Derby Beef Burger with chips and coleslaw/salad was really nice and worth the £11.50. The meal was ordered at the bar and the barman was very pleasant and friendly. They have a top rating of 5 for Food Hygiene. The restaurant consisted of a couple of rooms each with about 6 wooden tables with wooden chairs or settles which gave a comfortable country pub feel. I think you could also eat in the bar where dogs were allowed.
