Ana, our host grew up in this house. Her octogenarian mama welcomed us and though she didn't speak a word of English, through her gestures she wanted to know where we were from. The apartment is much bigger than expected and you feel like you are in the old country. Oh and the village is just charming.... great food... lovely people. We didn't want to leave and we miss our stay there and all the beautiful people we met. The traditional fritters for breakfast were delicious and totally decadent!

Room Tip: Lovely spacious apartment...

We turned up in Achranes late and ended up booking in here last minute. This accommodation definitely had the wow factor for us. Firstly the lovely terrace with flowers and the friendly welcome. The apartment itself was quite unexpected. Really spacious on 2 levels and all very traditional with wood floors and old furniture. This is easily the nicest accommodation we have stayed in and well worth the 80 euro price.

We arrived very late having made a last minute online booking and were nevertheless graciously received by our host. The apartment was stunning, complete with a working fireplace and canopy bed downstairs. The courtyard garden is beautiful and very well kept. Archanes is a fantastic town, our favourite of all the inland places we visited whilst in Crete. Attractions such as the Minoan palace at Knossos, and to the vineyards in the surrounding area are a short drive away.

What fabulous accommodation ... lovely rooms over two levels in a wonderful setting beautiful comfortable, huge bed in fabulous cool lower level ....could not fault this , Anna and her mother were lovely , very warm, friendly and helpful ... we had a great time here and hope to return
Only criticism would be the breakfast was pricey at 10 euros ...double what we had been paying on our trip around Crete .... delicious nonetheless

A family run guest house providing individual apartments over two levels, kitchen and living upstairs and bedroom and bathroom downstairs. There is access to the lower level from the street so you don't have to carry luggage up and down the stairs. The living area comprises of a kitchen with stove elements and a microwave oven. There is no toaster except for a sandwich toaster. The place seems to be set up for four or five people with large pots and pans but no small frypan or saucepan. There are plenty of dishes and glasses and detergent is provided along with a good supply of freshly laundered and pressed tea towels. We stayed for three nights and appreciated the space and sofas to relax. There's a large patio and the view across the valley is stunning.

The owner's mother/mother-in-law lives on the property as a sort of caretaker but speaks no English. She has created a beautiful garden filled with perfumed flowers. She baked delicious cookies for us during our stay and her daughter baked cake. They also brought in a tray with fresh coffee one morning. This was all complimentary.

I know it sounds idyllic but there are some negatives which I feel obliged to mention to be fair to tripadvisor members who look for a balanced opinion. The downstairs bedroom is very dark and unwelcoming. Sleep quality for me was atrocious. The bed is possibly the worst I have ever slept on, hard and uncomfortable and squeaked when one of us moved. There was a plastic mattress protector so on the second day I put a blanket under the sheet. The pillows were as bad as the mattress and the quality of the bed linen poor and undersized. The quilt looked as if it is probably used for every guest without washing in between.

The first day we had virtually no hot water but after that it was scalding hot so perhaps they forgot to turn it on. A bath tub was advertised on Booking.com but there was no plug for either the tub or handbasin. Fortunately I carry several plugs and one fitted the bath so we were able to use the tub.

The owners are warm and welcoming and obviously making every effort to provide good service to their guests. I would suggest they invest in a new mattress and pillows and increase their price slightly to cover the cost.
