“A unique experience!”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

Wow how do you describe a stay here! Firstly it is very difficult to find, it was dark and we searched for ages with our driver but what a place it is! Incredibly quiet, peaceful and rustic we stayed in a tree house - well worth it for the experience! It is not as basic as expected with a wonderful bamboo shower and wonderful wooden furnishings. It must be said it gets incredibly hot with no fan or ac it was almost unbearable but the heat adds to the feeling of being in the real barren wilderness which is great fun. It does get VERY windy at night and you do feel as if the whole tree house is about to fall down but we survived (albeit without sleep!) Dining is al fresco under the stars and we only saw one other couple our whole stay, very peaceful. Lastly the staff are FANTASTIC, the main guy (not sure of his name) was incredibly friendly, always running around to help us with a smile. Great little fun place to stay for the safari in Yala.

Room Tip: We had the first treehouse, still very quiet although nearest the dining area, felt very safe.

Arranged around a forest clearing, Beddegama Ecopark's cluster of huts and treehouses evokes the rich, earthy ambience of a village in the bush. Though you're not far from the Kataragama-Tissamaharama road, you'd never know that once you're settled here. Enveloped in Beddegama Ecopark's bucolic and enchanting tranquility, and immersed in the forest's vibrant surround sound, you literally feel miles from anywhere. Its buildings look and feel as if hewn from the earth itself, not artificially imposed upon it...organic and natural. As treehouses go, ours was really quite luxurious, an expansive platform in the canopy with electricity, a large and comfortable bed, and an en-suite bathroom. Having spent a serene and magical hour or two just watching the sun dip west beyond the forest, we stepped out for our evening meal in the reception lodge. There was a minor problem with the meal, but this was resolved with alacrity...the test isn't always whether anything goes wrong, but how it's resolved if it does, and I'm pleased to report that Beddegama's staff more than delivered. Sleeping in the treehouse was a somewhat surreal experience, as it moved and creaked in the night breeze, but with an early alarm call for Yala it didn't matter much anyway. Beddegama Ecopark won't be to everyone's tastes, and those who like their hotels with creature comforts and shrink-wrapped convenience should probably look elsewhere, but for a stripped down, uniquely alternative hotel experience this place is hard to beat. As a parting gift we were given wooden keyrings cut into the shape of Sri Lanka, which I've carried around with me ever since, a reminder of our lovely time in the trees...

I don't want to set the expectations bar very high but for me it was a pleasantly memorable experience. For those of you coming in a taxi, please know that the hotel entrance path is a little easy to miss but anyone can point you to that hotel. The path to the hotel gates set the tone immediately. It looks like a 200 meter safari. The lounge and all the rooms and cabins are constructed with mud to look very authentic but with all the amenities of a western hotel. We specifically wanted the tree top hotel room. The view was breathtaking and we saw monkeys about 100 meters on the trees but no one ever bothers you. The only thing that came even close was a squirrel who ate my mango I left outside. The tree top rooms are very comfortable and the bathroom is very nicely equipped. You will want to take a shower just because its so much fun to look at the view outside and the water is the perfect temperature at all times.

The food and breakfast is massive and hands down delicious and very reasonably priced. Don't expect your food to be ready immediately because its not pre-made. Anything you order is made from scratch so its takes a little while. Everything on the menu is fresh or they won't serve it. Everyone there works with pride and absolute politeness. It was on the 3rd day we found out that the manager there was the actual owner. He was down to earth and always willing to accommodate every request.

The safari trip was so cheap and although not like some African safari it was worth every penny. We saw all kinds of birds, crocodiles, wild buffaloes, elephants, leopard, bears, monitor lizards. We did not have any expectations going in but it turned out to be simply fantastic. We had already traveled for a week in Maldives and another week in Sri Lanka before coming here and we were a bit tired but this place was absolutely refreshing and the best way to have ended our trip. I wish we had spent more time there. I will definitely come back here just to experience this again.

Room Tip: There are tree houses and there are cabins on the ground. We wanted an experience in the trees and i...

Wow, I say, first impression I thought oh no, Why do I listen to comments on Trip Advisor when booking accommodation but soon changed my mind.

Tissa is very dry ATM with no rain for 6 months and very strong winds so the Eco. Park looked quite windswept. We were met by friendly owner and staff who showed us to our quaint mud brick villa with a basic outdoor shower. The room had a large comfy bed, kettle , you may have to ask for cups etc. Dinner was served outdoors which was a lovely touch for just 2 of us. The food was reasonably priced and plentiful. Breakfast was great and they could not be more attentive. The owner had a vision 1 1/2 years ago to buy the land and open Eco accommodation. There are 5 tree houses (very high) well equipped and not for the feint hearted as they sway in the wind, 2 villas and two amazing outdoor tents sites on ground all with own outdoor bathrooms and toilets.

The only reason I gave cleanliness a lower score was that it was so windy it was very hard to keep clean with the dust but in no way does this spoil the quality of the villa.

I wish this establishment all the very best in the future and hope anyone visiting Tissa to explore Yalla National Park and is looking for a uniquely different experience (other than a hotel) give this a try you won't be disappointed and don't judge a book by its cover in this instance as we departed
Very happy travellers from this adventure.

Room Tip: Villas are cosy, tree houses for the adventurers, and camp sites as well ... Pick your adventure! Di...

This place is just lovely. Set back from the road in a very peaceful setting right in the countryside in-between kataragama and tissa. About a 15 min drive to the entrance to yala, so no problem there.
The best thing is definitely the service, the owner and his staff were some of the nicest we met and really went over and above to make our stay special, including arranging for us to take our meal under the stars as a surprise which was just lovely. The tree houses are very special and a real experience. Thoroughly recommended!

This hotel is a experience you must have. It's so beautiful and covered with nature. I get a wake up call by the birds in the morning, which is so wonderful and calm. The staff are so friendly here and they try to make your stay as comfortable as they can. The owner is lovely and friendly, if you love nature and would like an experience sleeping on a tree house or a cottage in the wild, I would recommend you book this hotels and if you do have kids they would love it.

Room Tip: If you like a calm sleep I would not recommend the tree house as it's windy and if you don't...

We enjoyed The nature, silene, peace, originality of this special place. It feels like a childs Dream put into reality with the treehouses, cottages and tents. Also for our 3,5 year old boy. Showering under The trees and stars, waking Up with The birds, peacocks and monkeys, diner outside at petroleum lights... Feels like paradise. The people were very Nice and gave great service, breakfast, dinner and lunch were all wonderful and tasteful. Good, accurate and friendly advice on what to do and when, in The environment. no thing was missing to enjoy The essence of nature. Make sure to plan more than one night here, or you Will regret it :-)!!
