I stayed in this hotel for for one night, this hotel is an old country style hotel, execellent breakfast, showers in this hotel are excellent, very nice view. They dont need to change anything. I will recommend to anyone visiting Volta Redonda,RJ.

Room Tip: Ask for view of the city.

I travel to visit metal plants (like CSN there in V.R.). In my humble opinion, generally speaking Brasilian hotels suffer in bench-marking to other regions, but the BellaV shouts the point. The beauty in Bella Vista stops at the view. I hate to have extreme views, but really the maintenance of this tired gem is embarrassing. Honestly, bldg. mntnce worse than many small hotels in India. The mgmt knows they have little/none competition in town. >US$100 for this place is farce. US$20~30 would seem fair. I'll spare the drudgery of the details. Smmry: Rooms "clean"? Mostly. Fresh? No. Worn-out? OMG, yes. The excellent employees, restaurant, architecture, & beautiful location try - in vain - to compensate for the misery that besets you while existing in the sleeping room area. There is immense potential in this place! Enjoy the good restaurant & wonderful Brasilian hospitality...try to ignore the rooms. Maybe bring a tent & sleep on the lawn? (smile) If you stay I'd avoid "newer" wing. Older has more "charm" & better excuse to be what it is. (Does feel like 1940s) If you're desperate for alternative can consider Cegil Hotel in Resende (45~50kms west). Not great, but at least you won't get fleeced on value-for-$$ ratio.

Room Tip: Stay in Old Wing. Consider 2nd floor: has balcony & more ventilation

The Hotel School Bela Vista, is by far the best option in town. It's located in the city center, yet it is up on the hill, surrounded by trees and there are wide open areas and a very charming restaurant and bar with doors to the outside...very pleasant. The employees are very nice and excellent professionals, since the hotel is ran by a foundation and serves also as a school for the young people from the less fortunate families of the local community...a great social work. Not to mention that the hotel was built in the early 40's, so its colonial architecture is marked by high ceilings and big apt rooms, and has only two floors. It needs some refurbishing but still is in good shape.

A group of us stayed here during our work at the CSN steel mill in Volta Redonda (CSN owns the hotel). The Bela Vista sits up on a hill with good views of the city (and the steel mill). Looks pretty from the outside, but the hotel is outdated, with few "modern" amenities. There is an "old" section and a "new" section of the hotel. Some of us stayed in the old section, but the new section might still have been 20 years old. Rooms are sparse, i.e two small twin beds that were short for even me at 5'-8". Lighting in the rooms is poor, with no bedside lamps. The hotel does have Wi-Fi, but signals are only good in specific places, i.e. we had to sit in the hall, on the stairs or out in front of the hotel for it to work. One good point is that the restaurant does a wonderful job. Breakfast, lunch and dinner (from the menu or a buffet) provide a wide assortment of salads, soups, entrees, and desserts, all very nicely prepared and laid out. Delicious and fresh local fruits and vegetables.
