“Beautiful Views - Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

I would certainly recommend this hotel to my friends. The views from the common area / lounge are incredible. We stayed in the cottages, which were nice and self contained. Next time, I'd probably stay in the hotel section so we could have wifi. The breakfast (included in daily rate) was very nice, especially considering the breakfast would easily cost $20 a person in an Iceland cafe. Unfortunately they didn't have any fishing gear to rent, which I would have liked to spend some free time fishing the lake with all the sunlight!

Stayed here as it was the only hotel in the area that had rooms available. It cost more than I wanted to pay but was really nice. It looks rather strange form the outside (as do many icelandic hotels) but once inside its very smart. Its friendly, spotless and the breakfast was very good. Views from the restaurant are fab - mountains, sea and galciers! A good find.

Accommodation is either in the main building or in cabins. I cannot comment on the main building. We stayed here as part of a tour and were allocated cabins. My husband and I were lucky in that we were given cabin 7, the others were not so lucky. Unlike the others, cabin 7 has just a double bed and not also a set of bunks jammed up against the double bed and at right angles meaning it is very hard for one person in the double bed to get out of bed. All cabins are the same size and they are not at all suitable for 4 people. When we arrived the single soap dispenser had no soap in it. It was filled the next day but as it is located next to the basin and not in the shower this makes showering interesting. However there was plenty hot water. Our shower was of the type that is on a metal hose but the gadget that enables you to attach it to the upright was broken so when washing hair you can't use both hands as you still have to hold it. Our cabin had a little fridge and a two burner electric stove. It came equipped with four mugs, plates and cutlery, a frying pan and two pots, one of which we used to boil water for tea. We had our own tea bags. Some other cabins had an electric kettle and at least one had no kettle and no pots. On the positive side though, the food was absolutely superb. Dinner was as sumptious buffet with many choices and breakfast, another buffet, also had scrambled eggs sausages etc as well as the usual Icelandic fare. There is no wifi in the cabins but there is free wifi in the restaurant.

Room Tip: If you are not in the main building and have to take a cabin, then go for cabin 7

A very nice hotel with a beautiful location and a great room with wionderful views. However, the dinner buffet price was rather high (even for Iceland) so, like several guests we headed in to town to eat. Absolutely loved the knitted room key holder to hand around one's neck!

Absolutely incredible experience. Hotel itself and the grounds are amazing. Service staff are excellent. Meals were the best we had in iceland. However dinner buffet was very expensive. Good jump off point to the glacial lagoon and other nearby sites. Thank you!

We drove for about 5 to 6 hours drive from the the east to south.

We arrived pretty late that night but the hotel is still operating. We stayed for a night as part of the package tour.

This family run hotel is nice. Service was nice and the staff are accommodating. We didn't have buffet for the dinner as it was late but we were served with lovely Icelandic dish that night, yummy!

ROOMS - The hotel has cottages and the hotel rooms. We were booked at the hotel room which was good. Thing is, the black out curtain was not enough to cover the entire room and the bed is just next to the big glass door. June is summer and in Iceland, sun is up for about 20 hours, at least. I was able to sleep for at least 2 to 3 hours, as I was really tired.

BREAKFAST - I enjoyed my coffee and my waffles too. Not so much choices but I'm solved with my coffee. Yes, they have some ham, sausages, eggs etc but didn't get my yogurt this time.

SURROUNDINGS -The very good part of the hotel is the salubrious surroundings.

When you have time, go for a walk and you'll see the green hills around before going inside the hotel.

Greeny and really refreshing. I would have gone for a walk but didn't have enough time.

OVER ALL - I thought it was good to stay for a night. We left after breakfast as we will be driving again for few hours for South-East of Iceland.
