When you reach the top you have a wonderful view of the Fonseca Gulf with its islands , the other side you can see the pacific coast of El Salvador and when you turn back you can see the HONDURAS border and Nicaragua. you must be there.

“4WD? Want to see one hell of a view - drive up here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2012

Not easy to find but worth it. Coming in on the La Union road bypass take the second exit right to Conchagita – NOT Conchagua. From here to the top it should take about 35 minutes using 4WD. I don’t think you could make it without 4WD. Ask for the Volcan – if i remember there is a brown sign directing you to it a tourist site/natural site of interest. When you go through the village, up the steep cobbled road, you arrive at a gate – honk your horn and pay 5 dollars for the gate to be opened. The road continues to be steep to the top where you veer left another gate. A lovely guy tends to his coffee beans and mans the chalets/camping ground up here. 20 dollars for a chalet with ensuite and a lot less for a camping slot. The chalets have a wonderful view overlooking the Gulfo de Foncesa so i don’t think you need to think about camping! But you have to bring your own food and water for the night as there is no restaurant! The view is breathtaking and i was disappointed to have gotten lost the previous night to not have got up the top in time. Sunset and sunrise would be to die for! There is a short 30 hour round trip to a view point – which makes the view more breathtaking! Well worth the trip there and worth the night overstay. It is 5 more dollars to come in and park the vehicle.
