We are visitors from Australia and have been doing a whirlwind tour of Europe - a definite highlight for us was our stay in this beautiful farmhouse where we were warmly welcomed by our friendly hostess Kathrin. On our first night we were treated to a beautiful BBQ prepared and cooked by hour hosts in the company of some warm and friendly fellow guests. The children were able to experience true farm living and were up early to gather eggs and in the afternoon were invited to help milk the cows. Our accommodation was extremely comfortable and very well appointed. Set in a serenely beautiful part of the country - I would highly recommend this place and intend on returning as soon as we are able.

We're just finishing a fantastic ski week here and living in our castle has made it a memorable experience. Conveniently located near Zell am See and the Saalbach ski resorts, the rural farm setting is very relaxed. We are six families with lots of kids and we had reserved the whole castle. With two fully-equipped kitchens at our disposal, we cooked a lot of great dinners. There is a warm drying room on the ground floor that accomodated all of our gear, and a large lounge for relaxing and playing board games. Since it is a working farm, the kids can go and pick eggs and watch the cows being milked. Milk is fresh and free! The castle itself is a listed structure and dates back several centuries and is wonderfully restored with all mod cons, including WiFi natch. I think it would be fun year-round and it was great not having to worry about other guests being disturbed by the kids playing. The hosts are very accomodating and its been a great winter break.

We stayed for one week with our 3 children, aged 5, 8, and 10. We stayed in The self-contained Apartment Pine and had the Knights chamber apartment for the children to sleep in. This was located just across the hall. We were uncertain how this arrangement would work but it actually worked very well. The kids enjoyed having their own space. The back yard is excellent for children, with a large amount of space and play equipment. In fact, after holidaying all over Europe, this was our children's favorite back yard. The host was very pleasant and helpful and the booking process was simple. We found the location was excellent for visiting Eisreisenwelt ice cave, Krimml Falls and Grossglockener High Alpine road. We took the cable car from Zell Am See up to Schmittenhöhe and were very impressed by the adventure trail up there. The kids loved it and I would highly recommend it as an excellent family activity. We also took the opportunity to use a local babysitter and go to some excellent local restaurants. (3 Michelin star restaurants in Zell Am See now!)
This property felt very unique. Who wouldn't want to say they'd stayed in a castle? It was comfortable, clean and spacious and close to everything and I'd happily recommend it.

We booked the castle for a family reunion (19 of us) and it was a great choice. The castle is beautifully renovated with very comfortable rooms, the breakfast was fantastic with lots of home made products and the kids would have been happy to never even leave the property with all the animals to feed, farm activities to join in and the great play ground, trampoline, etc. The views are beautiful too and the hikes in the region were like right out of " The sound of Music". Kathrin, the farmer's wife, is such a warm and delightful hostess, she made sure we were able to enjoy our stay to the fullest. Wonderful!

We stayed at Castle Saalhof in late May while in Austria for a hiking holiday. Like many othere we found it while searching on the internet. We booked for 3 nights, but ended up staying for 6.
Your hostess Kathrin is very friendly and hepful. The rooms are very modern, quiet, and comfortable. Free high speed internet and satellite TV.
The Castle is also a working farm, so fresh milk is always available. Fresh eggs and bread are also available at a minimal cost.
Restaurants, ATM, grocery store all within 5 min. walking.
Close to Zell am See and the Schmittenhohe gondola. Thirty min. (or so) to the Grossglockner High Alpine road or Krimml Falls. Great hikes all around!
If you want to stay in a comfortable Inn surrounded by beautiful scenery, THIS should be your first choice! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We would definitely go back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the smallest room, and it was huge! Everything you need .

Comparing to several gasthofs and pensions we visited in past, this is completely new experience. Building with its atmosphere, history...and very friendly owners. Wonderful, cozy rooms, surprisingly spacious. The location is ideal for people going to both Zell am See and Saalbach...and thanks to the architecture, you can´t get lost. There is no other place as Schloss Saalhof around. If...definitely order breakfasts....most products are home-made, one of the best eggs I´ve ever had :-)
